My wc KINYONGIA multi. Didn't eat today and when I moved his food closer he freaked and jumped! On his way down he hit off a placid lid I hung for little treats. For about 15minutes he got very dark and laid motionless on the floor. He has now climbed slowly to his sleeping branch idk what to do now? Will he be ok? Could the stress kill him? Should I turn lights off? It's late... Please help me anyone with experience with falls I don't want my baby to die!!:(:(

My boy did this once when i put a new stick in his cage, I guess he thought it was a snake, i guess its like another defense mechanism. That was almost two months ago and he is fine. I dont think you should worry. How far did he fall? My boy only fell a few inches

Alittle less than 4feet!

I would keep to his normal light schedule. They are built to take falls and while hitting the lid might have caused damage, it's probably not that much. Tomorrow examine him to see if he has a bruise where he hit. If he seems to be having any trouble movie about, you should consider taking him to the vet.

I don't mean to laugh, but the part about thinking it was a snake made me chuckle...(again, not laughing at the situation)

If he seems otherwise okay I wouldn't worry too much. They do jump as a defense mechanism, as Zubi said. (They drop out of a tree to the ground so the predator can't get them.) Keep the lights like normal.

I can't afford a vet. He will have to pull threw he is moving slow but he doesn't seem to be favoring any limbs. He was so black when I yelled for my parents I thought he had moved he is usually light green but for a while he was all black!

Thank you all so much! This is the first time anything bad has happened to him. He is looking tired now. And I'm a nervous wreck.. I guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow and I'll keep you all posted.

If he does end up needing a vet, many can work out a payment plan so you can afford it. Most vets (any good one really) wants your animal to make it and get good medical care, so they will do what they can to help you afford it.

Thanks, I couldn't wait I just checked him. He is climbing around. Lately he has bn doing that after lights out. He is still weird colored but not black.

Give him some time. He had a big scare and might have a few owwies. As psssh says, vets will work with you so if you think he's not getting better, take him to the vet.

That's good news. Just keep an eye on how he moves. Take it slow the next time you need to open the cage. He'll get used to the whole process eventually.

he freaked and jumped!

LOL I had one male that did this all the time. He'd even curl into a ball when he hit the ground.

I'm gonna say that the colors are from fear not pain. Make sure all his limbs are working the same and his breathing is ok.

If you have tons of money you could go to the vet.

We need to keep this guy alive until he breeds!

He is back to his old self for the main part. I started bribing him with more junk food (mealworms) plus a few hoppers and house flies. I think I'll try breeding jacksons chameleons first before I make the move for kinyongia since I'm very nervous about egg incubation. I can't even get my cricket eggs to last I have got 3crickets out of my breeding effort over the past year. Luckily I'm getting a bed room I'm the basement that is larger so I'll have alittle more chameleon room.:)

LOL I can't breed crix either so don't let that hold you back. The more other chams you get the less likely you will ever breed HIM.
