Laying eggs

My veiled Cham has eggs which are infertile. The vet told me to put potting soil in the bottom of her cage and put about 2 inches thick. She is digging but has not laid any eggs yet. The vet said she should lay in about two weeks. It has been a week. Everything I see says to use play sand and put them in a container about 12x12 and 8 inches deep so they can dig a tunnel. How long does it take for them to lay eggs normally once you start to see signs?

It can take a few days once they start digging. Do not let her see you watching her when she's digging.

Here's how it should go..she may dig several test holes but should settle on one and dig it until she is satisfied with it. She should then turn around butt down in the hole...likelynin the evening and lay the eggs. This can be quick it take a while. She will then fill in the hole and tampmit down and return to the branches hungry and thirsty.

If it doesn't go this way then and she acts lethargic, sits low in the cage, eyes closed during the day, etc get her to a vet asap because it might mean that she's eggbound. If she does a phantom laying (does what I described but doesn't lay the eggs) get her to the vet ASAP.

Thanks for replying. Should I put something deep in the cage with her? The things we have in there now are not deep. The vet I took her to said it only needed to be a few inches deep. I have read different things. Thanks

It needs to be at least 12" deep but deeper is better. If you're going To !change it do it when she's up in the branches and if she already has a hole dug dig a similar one for her in the new container...but whatever you do make this the last change...the more you disturb things while she's trying to lay eggs the more likely she is to become eggbound and die.

Her cage is not big enough to do that. Can I put some branches in a container with wet sand like I have read and leave her in that for a while?
