Laying eggs

Hello all! I have a quick question for all you experts out there. I have a female veiled who has just laid some eggs. The question I have is that she did not bury them. I had another veiled that laid an infertile batch of eggs and she did not bury them either. I have this current one that is in an enclosure of 4 ft wide by 3 ft deep, by 5 ft high. I have a 5 gallon bucket almost filled with a sand/peat moss mixture in there for her to lay her eggs. there is also the pot with her tree in it. I did not actually see her lay the eggs, but the last few days she has not eaten, which I know is a sign that she was getting ready to lay, but never climbed down off of her tree. Not even to explore the sand mixture. I don't know if she came down from her tree to lay the eggs, although i am assuming she must have because the eggs seem to be ok. I have counted 39 eggs so far. About 5 of them ar kinda yellow and shriveled, which I am assuming are bad, even though I did put them in the incubator. All the others are bright white and very god in size. My question is, has anyone's chameleon ever laid eggs like that and do you think the eggs will be ok?

Personally, I have never had a veiled chameleon not fill in the hole...even when the eggs are infertile.

I have heard of some reptiles laying eggs that were infertile and not burying them....but more often than not, if a veiled chameleon does it she is having a problem of some kind.

If she was mated I would incubate the eggs. The ones that look good likely are and any that are smaller and more yellowish are most likely not good...but I would put them in the incubator for a few days until you can tell for sure. You can always put the ones you don't think look good in a separate container.
