alaska(my male veiled) usually hangs out at the top of the cage and used to cling on to the top and sit directly under the hood housing my compact florescent 5.0 so i went out and bought a new one
ok so i just bought an 18'' 5.0 uvb light for my 4'x2'x2' cage is this appropriate?

yes the 5.0 is what you want. You got the long tube then right if it is 18 inches obviously. They are better than the compacts. Some peoplehave had eye issues with the compact bulbs.
