Lighting questions

Hi all.
Hey I have a couple lighting questions that I could use some help with.

Exactly what is basking light?
Other than heat is there any benifit?
Does a regular house type bulb actually supply anything else other than heat?

My five month old male vailed seems to be thriving.
He has a reptisun 5.0, a ceramic heat eliment and a big window facing southwest into a large 3 sided exterior white alcove (sp?)

He receives tons of afternoon sun and still has shade.
For the most part he gets outside about an hour per day on an outside money tree plant.

Also I've alway heard that windows block UVB waves.
Is this actually true?

I mean UVB bulbs seem to work fine pennatrating their glass enclosure, also would there not be variables involved...like single pane versus argon filled double pane panels?

Can any of you actually supply me with a good link to the ubv reduction curve or something similar that has proven facts?
I read and hear that UVB cannot pennatrate glass...but really it kinda seems like "parroted" info.
Clearly some UVB does go through glass... or so it would seem.

As an indoor urban hydro gardener I know that white (flat white walls actually)
reflect hps rays much better than mirrors or tin foil.
Could the UVB rays be somewhat increased or helped by having the three white walls on my alcove?

Thank you.
I really appreciate it.
Andy

UV does not go through glass. I don't have any links at the moment but I'll bump this back up for you and maybe another member will see it that has some good links for lighting.
