I have the zoomed duo light but i just got a exo terra viv and im going to get the light for it (exo terra) because it should be a better fit and it holds the thermometer and hydrometer too, but there is two on market one with strip bulbs and a halogen centre bulb and also have option to fit fan? And just the duo anybody know anything about the stip light ones? I know there a bit more pricey but my local store selling one 2nd hand for £20?

Hi,

I have the medium (60cm) compact top (for CFL lamps) but after reading about possible issues with CFL's, decided to "go linear". I purchased the Dual top (which has the 2 halogen fittings as well) and must say I am less than impressed - it is nowhere near as bright as the compact top.
The compact top has 3 lamps, all at 25w - total 75w. The dual top has 2x 15w tubes plus 2x 35w halogens - total 140w, but is much dimmer in appearance overall. I think some of this is due to the central housing for the halogens that seems to prevent light from the tubes being reflected efficiently.

Note that the dual top has a fan already fitted, but this is only operational when the halogen lights are on and not when you have tubes only turned on.

I note that Exo Terra no longer have the "dual top" canopy in their catalogue or on their web site - only the "linear top". It seems to be much more open inside allowing for better light reflection. Does anybody else have experience of this?

I was planning on having a 5 uvb strip bulb in and also just a normal light bulb to provide heat and have a Replace the halogen with a LCD buld hoping that a normal strip will provide 35oc as my 40w normal bulb does now
