Lighting

I'm using a exo terra 45x45x60 terrarium, I'm setting up for a ambilobe panther but need to know which lights to put in the canopy, Iv been told a 26watt 5.0 compact and a 26watt 2.0 compact .
Then a lamp for a 40watt basking light

Does this sound right? Thanks

not at all right. :(

first, you only need one uvb bulb.

in cage that size, a tube light, reptisun/glo 5.0 is best.

and the wattage of the basking light should be based on what temps you need to create.
higher or lower depending on what you need.

I thought it sounded weird but I can't use tubes as its the compact type bulb

The 40watt basking should be about right for that size but easily available form the rep shop down the road, so that's not a problem if I need to change quickly

you can get a tube fixture, which i really wold recommend on a cage that size.
and you can use a regular hous bulb for basking.

no need to pay so much for a reptile basking bulb, when you can ue what you put in lamps.
:D

the 2.0 is pointless, only time any one uses them is for other lizards, maybe for a baby cham.

the 5.0 is fine, but again, the more covergae in your cage you get the better, which is why i recommend the tube.

So maybe using 2 of the 5.0s? Or using the 13watt ones instead? I'd rather keep the light fitting as it is as its made for the terrarium

you can use 2, so long as they are spaced farther apart. and your cham still has places to hide from it if he decides.

i would also make sure that once hes in it, that he doesnt close his eyes.

This is the setup so far and the pic of the hood but I need the new lights as they are 2.0

As I have commented on your thread on RFUK I would scrap the hood altogether and get a tube and starter with relfector. i would use a 10.0 as it is above thick exo terra mesh. Or you could go with the arcadia T5 set ups that are cheapes at surrey pet supplies. They really are great! I would get a 60 watt household bulb in a reflector dome attached to a thermostat.

Clay pebbles and the bin is to catch water from the dripper I'll be putting on

i wouldnt use that bin.

if the cham falls in, crawls in etc, they can drown.

also, those pebbles need to be bigger than his mouth can fit.

The Arcadia hood you linked to would be to big wouldn't it? I have a Arcadia starter from the UV strip on the reptibreeze I could use and get a slightly short strip UV light on it but there are no reflectors or lights that fit the 45cm terrarium

I was going to put rocks in it to prevent the drowning, I'm pretty sure the pebbles are fine for a baby cham

I see no reason not to use the lighting fixture/hood you already have. Tubes may be a slightly better spread, but here is nothing wrong with using a CFL (nowadays). You dont need two CFLs, but you could simply put a plant grow bulb or a low watt basking bulb on the other side.

So if I used the cfls would I need a 10.0 UV one and I have a 30watt 6500k bulb cfl or a 2700k I could use in the other side? Thanks
