I would like to add a living plant to my little veiled chameleon what types of planets are best to put into the cage? What kind of soil? I have read that it needs to be organic but I honestly don't know what type of plant to get I've tried to find more info on actual types of plants but all I have seen was debates on what kind of soils and how to care for the plant so the chameleon doesn't get sick kinda thing but it goes back and forth does so anyone with a veiled chameleon what types of plants do you use along with soil?

There was a thread listing safe plant types,
This link was attached to that thread.

I personally have a panther and use 3 umbrella plants in his cage.

I also heard that using soil with out any fertilizer / pesticides is a must.
And covering the soil with stones so the chemelian does not ingest any small items from the soil is a good idea.
I'm sure somone with more experience can chime in what I'm missing!

Hope this helps!

When I add a new plant to my enclosure I take it outside and remove the root-ball from the pot. Gently WASH all the soil out of the root-ball. Don't remove it by hand as this will damage the roots, use the gentle stream of water to slowly erode all the soil away. Should take about 3 mins to do a 6" potted plant. Then I re-pot the plant in its original container with large diameter expanded clay pellets, instead of dirt, that were pre-soaked in 100% organic hydroponic fertilizer. As mentioned above it is a good idea to cover the top of the plant pot with large stones, or even put a stocking over the top of the pot so water can still get to the roots during your routine misting's.

I do this because I never get any dirt or run-off accumulated in the bottom of my cage. Since i have no dirt to clog things up and all my plants are embedded into the walls of my enclosure i put 3/8" tubes in the bottom of my pots so if there is any runoff to be collected after a misting it all drains back out of the enclosure instead of into the chams living space...

This is my first build so i would welcome and tips or concerns form our more experienced members if any of this isn't a good idea.

For plants, I personally love succulents like the jade plant. I use safe soil, but cut up a piece of reptile carpet that will cover the entire top of the pot, with a hole in the middle for the plan to grow out of. Water goes through it, but not dirt or any other hazards.
