Look What I found on The Screen Door Today

I have been going in and out of the house a lot today because of the great weather and look what I found. I at first thought it was a newly started Hornets nest.

A big fat mantis ooth.

I normally only feed mantis out seasonally. However I normally feed them out to anyone I think is up to the challenge of making a meal out of a mantis.

Mantis are great. Occasional fine dining for my larger chameleons. Plus in general one of the neatest insects here in central California.

Raising mantis is definitely high maintenance chameleon food.

I'm excited to watch them grow! I'm sure that I'll feed some of them off, but I'll prolly keep a handful...

What would you say is the neatest?

All the Schistocerca, Mantis, and Jerusalem Crickets are all in the running for neatest here in California. However when the Tarantulas are mating has got to be #1 though.

No that Ooth is safe. I'm such a fan of mantis that I only occasionally feed them out during the summer. I do not look at them as regular feeders.

I buy them mostly to keep them in my yard to control other bugs, but I do save some for treats to my chams.
