looking for silkworms/superworm question

do any members in the San Diego area know of any place that silkworms locally. also someone told me that superworms could bite the insides of a reptile so i was a little worried about feeding them to my panther. he won't eat crickets anymore. any help with either subject would be great. thanks.

I don't know about panthers, but I feed my veiled's supers and they bite them and squirt juice all over. They also crunch munch them down so I highly doubt if they are alive to bite anything.

I buy all my silkies and horns from mulberry farms
They're close enough if you get a bunch and split the load with others you'll save $$$.

I just checked the mulberry site and they've stopped shipping their silkies due to some USDA hassle
that should be take care off soon. We may be able to get them directly if we stop by
-but there's no shipping right now for sure.


Re: the superworms
There's lots of other places to get those
if you only have one animal I would suggest just going to a local pet store
I've not had any problems with the (Zophobas Morio) worms
but then I wasn't taking any chances by crushing their heads
before offering as feed.

The horn worms are great
lots of bulk, water, tasty and fast growing
they're not a problem as long as your animal can learn which end is the head
my only worry is angry hornworm twisting back around
and biting the eyes of an attacking chameleon.
but that's really not likely.
all my chams turn off to these after the 3rd large worm in the same week.

You'll need to rotate your feeders
Chams will turn off from any one sort of feeder as a method to balance out their diet's nutrition
I tend to rotate the flavors of the crickets to help avoid "burnout".
Buying large amounts of crickets and feeding gutloading them different fruit tastes every week
that way the chameleons get 'something different" to eat vs the same old pasty guts.

tough luck, mulberry farms is having a problem with their USDA permit.
So, your best bet is finding some one in this forum that has breed silkies.
i was also in need of silkies. Coastal doesn't seem to have silkies either.
