Okay, so I have had Savannah for a little over a month. She is a Veil (veiled - read a post on here about that - still not sure what is right) chameleon still quite young. I went into the 'reptile room' where she has here cage set up and I guess I was thinking of feeding her but was distracted and left her cage cracked just a little bit; figured I would be right back. Well that did not happen and several hours later I went to check on her and see how she was doing. I didn't see her. Looked for a good 15 minutes (I have enough leaves and vines that looking for her for a while is common just to find finally notice her like right in front of me.) So I went inside to have my daughter come out and check the cage; figuring my daughter would walk into the 'reptile room' and Savannah would be in her normal sleeping place when lights are out and teenage daughter would be furious for having wasted her time coming out. She wasn't and so the search started for her. I picked up some artificial flowers and looked around with my daughter for like 30 to 40 minutes; we were looking everywhere - up high in the room, on the floor, behind her cage, behind shelves, along the ceiling (not sure how she would get in some of the places but I was desperate.) I was getting really upset because I spent all the time to get her cage nice, get the humidity correct and temperature yet then lose her by leaving the cage open. Good news, my daughter did find her in the same artificial flowers I had picked up but did not look in very good. Savannah seemed a little chilly and was not happy that I was demanding she get on my hand so I could put her back in her cage. I did give Savannah a lecture about leaving her cage which by her puffiness I am fairly sure she was letting me know she did not appreciate my opinions on the matter. So advice to new chameleon owners - don't leave the door to the cage open.
