Lost chameleon

I am horrified to say that Rocko is lost. He jumped down from his free range room and I have searched the house up and down three times now and still no Rocko. Anyone have any ideas on how I could get him to come out or where to look????

Set out cups of food around the house, and keep a nice warm basking spot for him. Check behind the t.v.'s and wherever there are any cords, blinds, high areas, top of cabinets, fridge, shower curtain. Hopefully you don't have dogs that can get at him or cats too.

Actually, if you have dogs or cats, just make sure they are always under a human's watchful eye. They are often the first ones to spot the missing critter. Cammimom just had this experience:

Suddenly, my dog becomes interested in the cables behind my tv.

Wanna guess who was there!?!?!??!
Kermit, safe and sound, all be it cold!

My husband only noticed our hamster had gotten out when the chihuahua became fascinated with the space between the washer and dryer.

They can be your best "hunters" you just have to make sure they don't get involved in the "collection".

check high, check under/behind things. its been said but it seems blinds/by the window and on/behind the tv are fairly common.

my cham actually got down off his outside free range yetsterday but all he did was sit in the grass and didnt go anywhere. hah.

anyways, good luck. maybe he is around some clothing or something? just move and scan slowly so you dont miss him.

The pet thing is true, my dog has found lost snakes as well.

I once found my ambilobe in the entrance closet (why, I don't know, but it was at the bottom of the stairs). But check cables, window blinds, curtains, book shelves, lamps, closets (could be hiding in clothes), etc. Set up hot spots and he should appear.

you are so right! When I had my labrador and my tortoise had gone missing(before he was killed by my neighbors dog, :( ) he was the one to find him. My tortoise was missing for like 10 days and I had surely thought he had gotten under the fence and left the yard. Here was my dog digging by this bush which was within two feet of my patio and lo and behold my torotise who was buried deep down in the dirt!!!

Jon, as you know everybody here free ranges. As long as your house is safe I'm sure he'll turn up. I use to worry everytime I couldn't lay eyes on someone and now I have to say to myself, well at least they are in the house. They often go back to their basking light the next morning. I have one that likes to hang on the cords behind my desk and I once found another on a cord behind the piano. My Cuban Knight likes to sit on top of the frig, because it's warm, and watch me cook. :) They will also vist the other's free ranges. Keep us posted on Rocko.

i second the behind the TV idea i alway catch my guys hanning out in the warmth on the wires back there

usually a free range is a house plant/tree or either an enclosure within the home. like a house plant you let your chameleon exercise on ;)

Even if you think he is in one area, search EVERYWHERE! Believe me! It can save your chams life. Get some plants around and mist them. Maybe put some worms in a bowl and count how many you put in. I wish you the best of luck!

Check rooms that he somehow could have gotten to. Kermit crawled Under a door to get to where I found him last night.
Literally, door was closed, he went under it and 20 ft away.

Also, if possible, move things that you know are cham free like boxes, tables shelves etc. kind of elimating pplaces you know he isnt, and removing them so he cant get there.

if you know anyone that has a female cham you can place her cage on the ground in an open room and he may be attracted to her. my friend found his cham like that.

Hyperion tends to climb out to the room where his boyfriend is. He sits on top of my vieleds cage and seems to harass him. My vieled thinks Hyperion is his "lady" for a little while then he realizes and gets very, very angry! Then he will sometimes puff up in a stare down.

Rocko first went missing yesterday afternoon and I searched every room high and low. Today I thought he would surface for sure, but to no success. I had a friend bring over her terrier mix in hopes that maybe she could sniff him out of hiding but still nothing. I have searched everywhere dozens of times. This is now his second night out...

Dont worry too much. You'll walk into a room and BAM! He will be right there where you looked hundreds of times just looking at you laughing with his eyes. :)

Especially check curtains/blinds.
