ok so i walked into my local 24/7 the other night and caught a decent sized luna moth flying around in circles inside the store. my panther is about 15-16 inches right now and im wondering if i could feed it to him. i know he can handle the body but the wings im not so sure about. all comments appreciated. thanks

Luna moths are not harmful to chameleons, but I would take the wings off any way just incase. The luna moth lives for about a week and does not eat anything at all. So you don't have to were about pesticides or other things.:D But they really look weird.

sorry if im being a pain but i couldnt find anything in those threads that could tell me if its too big or not.

Luna moths have been in really serious decline for years now :( I would hate to think you wasted a precious life of a beautiful and rare insect like this just to watch your cham eat something novel.

only reason im feeding it off is because i was able to catch the thing while it flew around in circles with a busted wing. figured might as well put it to good use. by the way this is the first time ive ever seen one of these in the wild around here; if it wasnt all f-ed up i wouldve left it alone and also prob wouldnt be able to catch the damn thing.:D

No Problem

We have used Luna Moths and their larva which get huge and can be fed on a variety of leaves. They can breed fairly easy in captivity. If you can get stock from an area that has 3 flights a year you can have them available year round. The adults, like mulberry silkworms do not feed. The larva can get huge and green, in fact some find them easier to raise than hornworms because they do not need a special chow. The chameleon will have no problem eating one wings and all.
