Hi I got dodge a 1 year old male chameleon a week ago he's been eating 7-9 locusts a day. Poop and urate looks fine so I don't think it's illness.the last 2 days he has slowed down on his eating still eats about 4 a day . He is continuously pacing around and around his vivarium and scratching at corners I just wondered if anybody had any idea as to why he is doing this ? Thanks guys

Funny. I was just thinking about this last night. Bill Strand mentioned this in his pod cast # 1, I believe. My Lucky (11 mo. old veiled) does this a bit during the day. I understand that this maybe a husbandry vs. behavior issue. My thought is that one supports the other. Too hot, too cold, not enough foliage, he sees me (the treat man) and wants to get to me, etc. I have yet to e-mail Bill in regards to this behavior. Maybe he'll see this and post a reply. Fill out the husbandry form and attach a few pics of your set up and cham. There's sure to be a few on here that will chime in.

Yes he is probably in his "horny phase" and trying to get out so he can find himself a good woman ;). My Yemen is also a year old and does this all the time, especially after he's done basking in the morning. From what I've read on these boards, this phase will eventually pass and he'll settle down again.

We need more information to be reasonably sure about what's going on: I think saying "it's hormones" is a little premature. It may be that he is in a breeding phase, but it would be better to fill out the "how to ask for help" form, just in case there is a husbandry issue. That is just as likely, honestly, and they will seek to escape an area that is not suiting their needs perfectly to try and find a new area that suits them better. He's also a little old for hormonal pacing- mostly you see that in "teenage" chams: 6-10 months of age or so. They usually start settling down after a year or so.

You can find the form to fill out here:

Just copy and paste it into a reply here, and answer the questions. A clear photo of your cham and setup can be really helpful too.
