Mamas boy?

So I don't mean to over analyze stuff but I think my chameleon prefers being with me than by himself if that makes sense?? Like he waits by the entrance of the cage sometimes and that's how I know he wants out, but I put my hand there so he can crawl around places and he thinks about it for a second but then crawls into my hand, never pick him up he just comes to me(he actually comes to anyone if he feels like it also he licked my friend and I and I heard that's a good sign). Also he turns very bright when he's on us, I know that this could be his scared colors but I'm pretty sure I figured out what those colors are because his whole body turns a dark blue and his stripes go black and so does his eyes, his usual happy colors go away. Please help me figure it out and drop some knowledge on me about this, thanks!

So a lot of people disagree with me because this is a happy world where all animals share human emotions Lol, but here it goes.... my Cham was like this very much when he needed a larger cage, wanted to get up higher, and wasn't satisfied. Since I've given him a huge area and raised him up above my head(about 6'6" off the ground) he's been much calmer and less interested in me. That said your cham might just be a more active explorer or looking for a mate. Some chams are bolder and prefer to be out and about. I'm not knocking everyone with an outgoing Cham, just saying make sure the cage is perfect before considering your Cham just one of the pals. Maybe show a picture of your set up?

Good luck, hope all's well

Btw both bright and dark colors can mean stress. Not all stress is necessarily bad though. It is just indicating the body is stimulated from something.
the cage size is 19 by 26, also I have a rope thing I put him on and its high up but he gets really angry whenever hes up there, he gets mad whenever hes high up actually so I'm not sure.

I agree with @jamest0o0 his condo is much to small . @jamest0o0 i live in that world that I share all happy human emotions with my chameleons :D . You can't knock me out because I'm a girl lol (y) . All kidding aside we have one whom will bite and is extremely bossy , and another whom is sweet and think everyone is his . They have different personalities . The biggest thing is know your chameleon and what they actually do tolerate . We just open their doors slide a tree over to their condos and let them do as they want .

@Kristen Wilkins Lol don't worry, I agree with You. I just like to stress that most reptiles aren't cuddle buddies and the ones that are tend to be the exception. I trust your care and knowledge is well enough to know your animals, but some new keepers can easily misread signals. I'm guilty of this, as I'm sure we all were at some point.

I have not been a chameleon keeper for all that long comparison to you or other keepers . Just over 14 months in the Cham world . I certainly had Husbandry issues . Took the advice of all the amazing keepers here . We did research for over two years , learned most caming from this forum . We had the best of the best guiding us and boy did we need that with Miss Grumpy Butt pretty girl (Aka Frances) . That's our experience 2 chameleons one being a real challenge .

Im actually pretty new to chameleons. When I was much younger I helped look after a veiled, that was yearsss ago and our care wasn't the best... since then i spent a lot of time reading about chams and obsessing over getting a panther, but never pulled the trigger. Was constantly moving and taking classes. Only last June I came back to the forums to get caught up on the latest care. I have had all kinds of snakes, geckos, tortoises, aquariums FW and salt, you name it... since I was probably 5 years old. Of course I had help at that age though. Since last year I'd say I've spent at the very least an hour or two a day reading everything I can about chameleons, bioactivity, and anything animal related that interested me. I was fortunate to have a lot of time in between taking online classes(they were sooo easy other than math) so I'd magine I had much more time than the average person to spend learning. Also saved up from tons of work to take time off while in school.

Anyway that's my backstory lol, didn't wanna act like I've had chams so long I'm an expert, just a lot of free time. I tend to be extremely obsessive over things I like

All or nothing !!. I'd rather spend time with my family and scaly babies over people most of the time . I can be obsessive on care with things I love lol . There's worse ways to be I suppose .

so am I gonna have to buy a new cage?? I've asked around to people that own chams and they said it should be fine but what should I do because I cant buy a new cage.

@Brokaylacham said..."he licked my friend and I and I heard that's a good sign"...they lick to taste not to be friendly.

Younsaid..."Also he turns very bright when he's on us, I know that this could be his scared colors but I'm pretty sure I figured out what those colors are because his whole body turns a dark blue and his stripes go black and so does his eyes, his usual happy colors go away" the color change is likely because he's out of his territory (cage) and so he has to be on guard and ready for predators and aggressors....so it is a kind of stress.

Knowledge enough for now? :)
