I smashed it with a 16 foot plank.
Blood shot out from under the fingernail I put a bandaid, two days later it looked fine except the nail was loose.
I was cutting firewood and snagged the nail on some bark ripping it half way off so I just trimmed it off. I don't know what hurt worse smashing or ripping it off.

Ouch.. my son smashed his finger in the door a couple weeks ago. Then after that his finger nail came off.... It doesnt look like its growinb back either.

I caught my thumb in a door once and lost the nail, but it grew back normally. It does hurt quite a bit, that's for sure!

depends on injury like i said i lost mine a few yrs back and the nail grows back but will not attach to the fingernail area and like yours it snags on everything and is pia so i just keep mine trimmed down to the nub.

Ugh! That pic makes me cringe. I bet it feels horrendous without a nail - like when you have cut one down too far and it feels weird because the skin is not used to being touched, only this is hundreds of times worse! Ugh!

Awww maannn! As a woman who takes pristine care of my nails, I find this gross, too! I would suggest using a cuticle nipper to cut off the sharp corners so you don't cut yourself and risk an infection. A regular nil clipper won't really be able to get the tiny sides.

Crazy pics of your finger! The nail should grow back normally - I lost about 2/5 of my thumb nail to a mandolin, when I was in the kitchen, and it is normal today. Like everyone said, keep it covered and be patient!
