Maybe a bearded dragon??

Ok, so every time I go to my local pet store for crickets I have to look at the bearded dragons. I love them. I'm curious who all owns one, or has in the past, and what you think. I know they require a heat rock, light, etc. but what else might I need besides a home for it, to get started?

Beardies are great! In some ways they are the antidote for our unappreciative mood rings. They are social, curious, busy, funny, tough, and smart. Yes I love my little prima donna chams, but when I need some appreciation and some semblance of friendliness from my herps they give it.

You will need a large horizontal enclosure that holds more heat than the usual cham cage (higher intensity lights, more watts, more attention to overheated fixtures, greens and veggies as well as insect feeders, and the beardie will appreciate more interaction from you). They like to get out and about regularly.

That was very-well explained, thank you. Every time I see them they're alert and checking everything out. Not as aloof, if you will, as my little Chamy. Plus they remind me of the "horny toads" my brothers and I used to catch as kids. I work with a girl who's son had one for years and she said everyone in the family held him, he loved to be out. I still love my Chloe Cham, just thinking about expanding the family haha!

has your cham ever seen the bearded dragon? I sometimes think about getting one but then i would have 2 chams, a turtle tank, and a bearded dragon in my room and if i were to take him out i don't know how a chameleon would react to seeing him.

also just wanted to add that one on my chams cage is next to my 55 gallon turtle&fish tank and he does not care at all. He has walked right next to the tank and it won't even phase him.

Beardies are the best! I love mine. She's so sweet. You definitely don't want a heat rock though cuz you'll burn their little belly. I ordered her a hammock off amazon and she spends the majority of her time in it just watching everything going on. She'll go for walks with me (clung to my chest or on my shoulder) and I take her up to the mini mart with me sometimes. She runs around the house and chases the cats tails lol. She'll lay with my old cat in the window sill when it's sunny out. She's such a little lover. I highly suggest getting one if you want a sweet lizard you can spend lots of time with.

As for how a cham reacts to a beardie, they don't react well. My beardie just loved the fact that there was this scared little bitch across the livingroom she could mean mug and give stink eyes to so I had to put a towel down the side of her tank so she couldn't intimidate him anymore. Puff really didn't like not being able to oversee all the goings on in her livingroom so I eventually moved the cham into the dining room so now he has the whole room to himself and Puff can watch me watching tv with those loving yet judgy eyes of hers lol.

That's what i was worried about. I wouldn't want to have to move cages/tanks around to different rooms. thanks for the help

You really just need a good barrier like you would if you had two chams. It's the same thing. I just didn't make a very good attempt since I knew it wash only going to be temporary.

I bought a beardie because I wanted a reptile I could actually hold. I adore him! Here's a picture I took of him soon after I bought him. He sat there posing in the sun in that stupid hat for minutes. I think he quite enjoyed the photo session. They are really cool. They strike me as quite intelligent and trainable. By the way, I have a second beardie I would love to rehome. He is not quite so laid back and needs to go to a special home because he is so intense. If anyone knows someone who is interested in a beardie (a very pretty red male, about a year old), he is available to the right home. He needs someone who can spend some time socializing him and I don't have that time.

I have a beardie as well. Love her so much! And I love that if my Dubia or feeders get too big for my Cham I can feed them off to her. They love attention. Mine usually "pouts" if I've been busy and can't get her out much. Halloween is great with her on my shoulder as I give out candy. I don't have them in the same room and never have them out together. I would be too terrified that my beardie would eat my Cham and my Cham would just see her as a preditor.
