Me mate Dave

Hi there,
I live in the South of England where the weather is getting quite bad. I just had a thought if the power was ever lost, my little mate would be in a bit of a pickle. What emergency precaution do you guys take?
I have known people use pocket warmers, boiling water but these seem a little bit crude, and I really dont think a generator will work in a flat.

I live in Alaska in a very remote town, so think about this a lot. There are several things you can do. First, remember than chams just lower their metabolism and sleep in a dark cool container so don't need to be kept at daytime temps. Get a styrofoam insulated tropical fish box (larger is better) and wedge a stick inside for a perch. Have a small insulated hot water bottle or some heat pack hand warmers on hand. You can fill the hot water bottle with warm tap water before it cools down and put the cham in the box with it. The heat packs can generate quite a bit of heat in an enclosed space, but as long as you monitor the temp, it should keep the cham plenty warm for hours. Just keep the box and supplies ready just in case. If you have a really extended power failure you can always put the box next to you all wrapped up in a blanket. Your own body heat will work as long as the cham won't get too warm.

Find a neighbor or friend who has a wood stove and arrange to take the cham there. If you have a gas stove that doesn't require electricity you can heat water for the box too.

Nice one

That sounds pretty good to me, excellent. I have to find me a box now. Just hope I never have to try it;).

I think I will start a risk assessment and get the family to carry out drills to get the procedure to letter.....Time is heat and heat cost lives...well for my mate Dave anyway.

Will start at 0600 tomorrow.

You could go to ur nearest hardware store and buy styrofoam 1" thick and line the inside of a box with it put hand warmers in it with a branch basicaly wat Carlton said just with a diffrent box incase a fish box cant be found in ur area Worse case I have heard of people turning on the car and running the heater depending on how long ur power is out.
