Meal Worm Beatles

ahh kk just wondering cause my cham only eats the crickets i give him and my meal worms he is scard of. so i was thinking maybe if a beetle was running around in there he would eat that because it moves around like a cricket. that and i have a few mealworms that are turning into beetles

Right after the pupae hatch into adults, their shell is still soft, so that's a good time to feed them to your cham.

I've read that the beetles are bitter and some reptiles will eat one and refuse them afterwards... I wonder how they figured out they are bitter? :)

People will do the craziest things. There is a guy at the reptile show here who will eat a Hisser for $5. Craziest thing Ive ever seen.

So dont use mealworms. They arent an important feeder choice. Many better options exist, such as silkworms, butterworms, even Superworms (aka Kingworms where I live).

i would use superworms but there to big for the little guy haha maybe in about 2 months he can have em

Hey Pssh. I keep hearing about stickbugs are illegal in the US. We are not obviously talking about walking sticks right? I used to find those in Michigan where i grew up. What kind are illegal?

I looked it up. Apparently any non-native species is illegal since they are plant eaters and therefore, considered pestiferous by the USDA.

Larger chameleon relish super worm beetles. I have fed them to F. oustaleti and C. parsonii with great success. It would not surprise if T. melleri and F. verrucosus would relish a super worm beetle snack as well.

Super Worm beetles are kind of neat to offer to captive chameleons, they provide more of a food selection plus they are an inexpensive and readily available extra food option.

Superworms start off just as small as mealworms do when they hatch, and so there are plenty of sizes of superworm to choose from. Just buy some that are the same size as mealworms or smaller.
