Medium atrium dragon strand lighting

Just doing some research for my future purchase of the clear sided medium atrium. What does everyone recommend for lighting and lighting fixtures for a wide cage like that. Thank you!

I can't answer your question, but I have one of my own regarding the medium atrium - do the dimensions of 28.5″ wide, 29.5″ high, and 18″ deep actually provide the necessary space required for an adult male panther like the website claims?

I know bill strand is widely respected here, but the dimensions seem small. That being said, it would fit perfectly into a recessed area in my dining room meant for a hutch.

Hi!
Do you plan on doing live plants? ( I hope so because plants are a good thing. :) )
Anyway , a 2 foot HO t5 fixture with one 6% Arcadia bulb and one daylight full spectrum bulb would be very good for that set up.
That size set up is just a tad small to do a 12% High Output (ho t5) bulb.
I assure you there will be plenty of UV using the 6% ho t5 bulb.
Simply set the light *plunk* right down on top and plug in.
TIP:
Adjust perch(s) directly under light to be a few different levels so the UV and heat will be slightly different on each level -- so the Cham can choose what they want at any given time.
Have a perch at say 8-9" , one at 12 and maybe work one in at 14"

THen, set the dome light (read below) kind of close over some of the perches.
And take the temps at the perch levels.
Start with a 40 - 60w bulb and adjust wattage of bulb or perch levels as needed to get some nice temps for him to choose from.
It sounds hard, but actual it is pretty easy and will probably just fall all into place easy peasy. :)

You will still need the dome light for basking.
A small dome fixture will be fine.
Even though t5 fixtures DO get warm,
Flo. lights do not *project* the heat down the same way a good incandescent bulb in a dome light does.
So all flo. lights should be paired with a dome light on set ups.
Even if they don't use it all the time, they NEED to HAVE the Option to be able to raise their body temp. if they want to.
Example: They need to at least have the option to heat up if they want, like after a big big meal.

Anyway, simply start with a 40 - 60 watt bulb in the dome and then check your temps.
You can always change the wattage as needed.
A household bulb can be used.
But a step up would be a "flood" type reflector bulb that "shoots" more light and heat down.
Halogen bulbs last longer than reg. incandescent bulbs. But also usually cost a bit more.

Hope this helps clear up any confusion.
Light is SO important, not onlyt for how beautiful your animal and set up looks,
but the UV light is one of the biggest factors in health and success in Chams.

Thanks,

I am wondering this myself, for my new cham room. As I can fit 4 of these cages on 1 60x18x72 rack. That means 4 chams on 60 inches of wall space vs 4 chams on 8 feet of wall space with any other cages.

Duma- Did you end up purchasing he medium atrium? I have the same question....planning on getting a male panther and wondering if it will be big enough once he is grown. This size would fit perfectly into a recessed area over a draining sink so that is why I don't want to get the large, it would be a tad too big. Maybe I can request a custom size though. I definitely don't want to cramp him based on the location in my house, I will just have to move him.

Yes I got it and I love it! Not sure if he could do a custom size but it can't hurt to ask!
