Mellers cham supplements

gutload only vs use a lot of extra supplements on Mellers? Is this true? or is it too much specifically with the D3 a issue like most cham species?? As most cham owners gut load.. and gut loading is to do the best one can to provide nutrition.. supplements take the place of what may be lacking in artificial lighting, and also variety.. so?? supplement or not?

I currently use every feeding with Calcium no d3 each feeding (every other day or daily small meals tiny pinch) then with d3 no more than twice a month ( winter- summer with outdoor time may cut the d3 down to once a month) and a multivitamin twice a month..

Too much for this species?? or a good basic starting point?? On gut loaded prey.. heck they eat better then we do :)

I personally don't use supplemental D3 at all, and use plain calcium very sparingly. I have access to daily natural sunshine, though, so I don't have to fill in any gaps in that regard. But even plain calcium can be too much for these guys daily, so I try to use it pretty sparingly and choose high-cal gut load ingredients and high-cal feeders instead.

I don't know if other melleri owners have the same strategy but I feel that they're pretty sensitive to dietary supplements.

I didn't find them to be overly sensitive to supplements myself.

Really- I think if you treat them similar to giant jacksons chameleons that like a bit more drink, that is a pretty good basis to tweak your husbandry around...

I give my vitamin/minerals and D3 twice a month, with no other calcium supplementation. I feed dubia, crickets, and superworms all fed a high quality, high calcium diet. Spring through Fall I feed all the large bugs I can catch, they really like cicadas, mantids, grasshoppers, and katydids.
