Mickey Mouse with Whiskers

I bought Mickey Malthe in early April. This is his first shed since he came, and believe me I did everything I could think of to get him to shed!

A couple of days ago, Mickey was worrying me a lot. His feet and legs were swollen. He couldn't grip. He was hanging his legs off the perches not gripping. I feared he was developing gout as the result of dehydration around import. He's a prime candidate for gout--he was four months at the importer's in a screen cage with artificial plants kept too hot and too dry.....

Well, then the skin--the crust--on his leg started to split. After some time when I was sure the skin was separated from his foot, I freed his foot and legs. What a relief for him and me--he could use his foot again and I was so happy to see his feet and legs weren't swollen at all. It was just the thick crust of shed. He finally shed his casque and I collected the shed to look for infection underneath since I think he had developed some little infections on other parts of his body. When I bent it, it snapped. It actually made a loud snapping sound like breaking a crisp cracker! Poor boy.

Here's Mickey Malthe almost finished his shed, complete with little mousey whiskers.
