so iam going to go to school soon in about 1 month and as of now i have no problem keeping the humidity up inside myb chameleon's cage :] i spray in there every 2-3 hours or so keeping it at a 55-60 percent humid.i also have a dripper but not so sure if that even helps the humidity levels. anyhow i have been using a spray bottle and i have seen those automatic misters, the thing seems to do the job but the least time it can be set up to spray is 15 seconds, i am not sure if i can use such a thing since my cage is all screened and it is about a 2 1/2ft away from my bed and computer, will the mister spray outside of the cage? i have seen a demon on youtube and it seems like it is a sprinkler it is also very loud :p my cage is 25x16x30 i really do think the sprayer is a bad idea since i feel like the water will get my computer and bed wet, not to mention my printer (all in one) my printer had a lot of water inside the scanner part, when i spray with the spray bottle the water caught by the screen builds and drips dripping to my printer i clean the acces water on the screen now.

ok so option 2 was a fogger is it a good idea? seems to work for humidity levels but is it a good idea? will the "fog" escape from the screen cage and go to my comp? the demo i have seen on youtube shows the fog machine thing being used on a glass cage.
 
If it is a panther you are speaking of... The humidity created by a fogger would be too much. An automated mister coupled live plants would most likely be your best option.

I use a fogger with my species that require exceptionally high humidity... Higher than the requirements of Panters and Veileds.

Humidity is a touchy factor in creating your environment... cause either too much or too litlte can cause issues. As long as you getting him drinking via misting during the day... I would say with a panther too much humidity would be more detrimental than to little.

what do you mean by "An automated mister coupled live plants would most likely be your best option."

i have 6 live plants in there no fake plants.

i have an umbrella tree, 2 spider plants, 2 pothos (small), and this plant this is all leaves big ones and are colorful orange with green and yellow (i forgot the name of this plant but i know it is safe for cham. since i have read about them)

anywho do you reccomend a mister or fogger? i want something that will be harder for the water to get out of the cage. like i said i think the mister sprays to hard and for a long time but i am not sure if there is an adjustable setting, and from the video i saw it wasn't even mist like the spray bottle when it mists, it was more like squirts or streams.
 
JuApple, if you are talking about Habba Mist, then you are right.
I think Joe (and I) are talking more along the line of Mistking system.


You can set it up so it mist however long you want.
I set it up to mist 4 times a day/ 5 minutes each misting.

about the fact that Habba Mist is actually spitting water than misting it.
Habba Mist is actually a waste of money.
Save that money and get an automated misting system instead.
 
I meant that if you have something like a Mistking misting the cage down every few hours during the day, and live plants to help obtain that moisture... Then you should be all set. Sounds like you got it together with the plants. The spitting mechanism you reffered to sounds like a habbamist... and you don't want that.

A fogger is not really an option with a Veiled. I could see the amount of constant humidity created by a fogger causing a Respiratory infection in a Veiled.

oh my! that is what i am looking for! the mistins king looks great! and does not "spit" water like you said! i still think 5 minutes is a little to long for me can it go any lower than that? i do not have a drainage system and i cannot make one either. i think a 1 minute will be fine :] that's how long i ussually mist the cage for.
 
Drainage will be a must... And it is very easy.

Drill holes in the bottom of the cage... Put a bucket underneath.

My drainage system is basically holes on the cage's floor. I put the cage on a metal rack I got from target. Under the rack is a plastic bucket. Could not be simpler than that.

If you are to only mist a minute, then I recommend adding a dripper for your chameleon.
 
My chameleon cage was right next to my bed and computer in my dorm room, and none of it was ever hit by water from my mistking nozzles. As long as you have proper drainage to collect the water underneath the cage, then you should be fine. You can fully customize the positioning of your nozzles so that it sprays only your cage; the mist is very fine and does not easily penetrate through the cage. If I were you I would set the misting time for much longer then one minute, your cage is bigger then mine and should definitely be able to handle several sessions of ~10 minute mistings. As long as you have proper drainage, everything should work fine.
 
i really cannot add a drainage :[ since the bottom of my cage is the same size as the book shelve its on and there fore holes will be useless...:/ i do have a dripper it is a little dripper from zoomed. if i do have the sprayer to spray for a minute every 2 hours or so will it build a lot of water? when i spray the cage for about 1-1.5 minute it stays cool humid for about 10 minutes and then it gets warm again the humidity levels stay at a 55-60 for about an hour and then go to 50 in the 2 hours then i spray water again like i did before. the water seems to stay on the umbrella plant and the rest of the plants the drippings land on the wood chips i bought from the petstore.

Hi Ju Apple,

If you decided to get a misting system, then you need to have some drainage system of some sort. I would highly advise you to take all electronic items as far as possible from your chameleon cage.
Get rid of the wood chips substrate. Impaction problem.

i am using an aluminum screen cage. sing i have wood chips on the floowing how can i make a drainage and another thing is how sure i am that the excess water will go directly to the drainage path and just wond build up in another place causeing the wood floor (bottom part of the cage) to rott or split etc.?
 
EEK! Yeah... Get the wood chippings out for sure.

And as far as drainage. You can use anything really, bricks, feeder cups, to lift all four corners of the cage off the shelf enough so that you can slide a little tub underneath to catch the water. Whatever you use to prop up the cage can be draped with a cloth to look nice. As long as what you are using to prop it up isn't bigger than the shelf itslef... it can be made to look pretty nice. 8 bricks, 2 under each corner stacked lying down would work great.
 
Ahhh bricks to lift it up :] never thought of that:p ok so how will i make the water go to a certain paart of the cage (the par with the holes)
 
I use a fogger for my female veiled. She loves it and I have had no problem at all. As soon as I turn it on shell run towards and just sit in it.

the plant pot will make the PVC floor concave pushing the water to go to the middle area.
 
Drill the holes in the center of the floor. Wieght from the plants will bend the bottom enough to handle the drainage.
