MistKing and solarmeter related questions

Question # 1 - MistKing: for those of you that have used the MistKing for some time, I was wondering if you think these connectors might work?

They’re 1/4 fittings, so the tubing that comes with the MistKing should work.. I only ask because I’ll need extra fittings for additional nozzles, and you get quite a few different types here. On the other hand, I‘d hate to go cheap and have all kinds of leaks to deal with.

Question # 2 - Solar meter: A breeder I follow on Instagram had positive things to say about this company and their products:

Sursun UVB Reader

I’m not familiar with them, but they appear to have a UVB reader on their website.. it goes for quite a bit less than the solarmeter 6.5. No idea how the two compare, or whether this is even appropriate for use with chameleons. Thoughts (if any)?
 
While I am not terribly knowledgeable about these things, it appears that the Solarmeter 6.5 and Sursun uvb reader (equivalent to Solarmeter 6.2) measure two different things. This should explain it better than I can.
Which Meter Do I Need For My Reptile – Model 6.5R Reptile UV Index Meter or the Model 6.2R Reptile UVB Lamp Meter?
Ideally, reptile keepers will want both meters. Because the Model 6.5R Reptile UV Index Meter’s erythemally weighted action spectrum is extremely close to the action spectrum for vitamin D3 synthesis, it is the ideal tool to determine proper UV dose for your reptile, per the appropriate Ferguson Zone for the species. In fact, the 6.5R’s readings can function as a proxy for the vitamin D3-producing ability of the habitat’s light source. Meanwhile, the Model 6.2R Reptile UVB Lamp Meter is ideally suited to determine if UVB lamps are performing to manufacturer’s specifications, gauge intensity, and measure aging over time. So, in short, use the Model 6.5R to determine proper UV dose for the animal, and use the Model 6.2R to determine UVB lamp output.

They look right. I'm a little surprised no one asked about MK compatibility in the Questions area.
Couldn't hurt to ask.

IDT chameleons give off UVB, but it should work for UVB bulbs ( :LOL: ). I also couldn't find any technical information or specs whick kind of concerns me. Can't find any reviews either.

The company (Vivtech/Sursun) came out with an LED UVB spot light last year. There were a couple of threads about it here, and several vids on YT.

I bring that up because it appears they are trying to make a splash in the herp hobby industry with these new products. IDK how well (or not) they're doing.

There are other less expensive (than Solarmeter) meters, but I couldn't say if they're comparable or junk.

It is helpful!

In the first place, it helps to see that this company has already been discussed here. This was my first time hearing of them (I probably should have searched for their name). Same on the not being able to find product specs! I think as far as UVB meters go, I’ll stick with what we know works and can be trusted. Pricey but worth it :) I’d also ask about MK compatibility with the fittings I linked to myself, but I ended up just buying the specific MK fittings I was after from Josh’s Frogs. ✌🏻

If it's any consolation, even a Solarmeter should eventually pay for itself (or a sizable chunk) eventually; the more reptiles (UVB bulbs) one has, the faster & greater the payback.

Could not agree more. I’m at a point now where it won’t be feasible not to get one. Pretty soon I‘ll have not one, not two, but three chams.. getting into this hobby definitely turns some of us into gluttons for punishment 🙃
