Hello everyone !! I read a thread earlier about there chameleon mouth being open could mean respiratory problems or too much heat and my little guy Freddie has been doing same thing I don't c any sign of him being sick appetite seem good been drinking water. I brought the temp down by raising the bulb further. What are some signs of him being sick? Thanks jay

He will have a lot of saliva, and you can usually her popping sounds when they breath, and it will look like they are having a hard time breathing. Sometimes they will just do this for no apparent reason are you sure your heat was too high what was it, and what type of cham do you have?

I generally keep it between 75 and 85 but with the heat wave were getting It got up to about 92 degrees Fahrenheit

Is that the ambient temp that high? If it is, yes! Turn the basking bulb off!

In summertime my place gets pretty warm sometimes and I always turn the basking bulbs off early. Longer misting sessions during heat waves help also

There was a fire in my building just under my apt about 4 days ago n room got some smoke in it before we noticed n got out. Not sure if it may have anything to do with it. I will post a few pics tomorrow and see if I can't get one of inside of his mouth

My panther also does that sometimes when he is basking. It is a way for them to release heat when they get to hot if he does it more then 2 times a day it might be something to worry about. I'm not an expert so I will let more experienced people come in.

Thought the temps seemed similar to my area!! Its been hot af here most of the week. We were over 40C with humidity..

Where in Ontario are you? @Jay3479

If u know the area u probably know the reptile shop I picked him up at all reptiles in Scarborough on Kennedy

Ok thanks everyone I appreciate the info and I'm happy to say I lowered the temp to the low 80 n as of yet today I haven't caught him with his mouth open today has ate n drank if anyone suspects illness from pics I posted just let me know thanks
Jay

might want to invest in a screened cage, all that glass traps a lot of heat inside. he would benefit with better circulation. id get a medium at least and move him up to an xl when hes grown.
