hey everyone, i was just wondering if listening to music or watching tv in the same room as my chameleon is a bad idea? will this stress him out at all?

i read about this in a book i bought yesterday, according to the author chameleons are deaf, but have the ability to sense vibrations, mine don't seem to mind the vacuum, or radio, but what i want to know is if the flashing images on the tv would cause them to stress out??

Just as a bright colored shirt can stress them a TV definitely can. I have never seen one even acknowledge the TV. I don't have them sitting in front of it but it is viewable from the side. So far no one seems to care.

My 2 chams are in the far corner of our living room and if I watch tv at night/dusk then I just cover their cages at the front so that the light from the tv doesnt bother them. I find if I dont and their lights have just been switched off it does cause them to stay awake longer and they are restless and usually I find them sleeping somewhere they normally dont. Not all times but enough to warrant covering them.

I have a theory about animals in general and screens (tvs, computers etc).

I think their basic needs dictate that they recognize structure and 3 dimensions. A flat surface popping colors and motion could for sure still be distracting and possibly cause stress depending on the proximity and size of the screen to the chameleon, but I think strangely shaped objects covered in patterns that move around them are worse.

example: My veiled Otto would freak out when I put a new branch in his cage. I think he thought it was a snake.
