This is my first chameleon and i am really nervous i got him 3 days ago and i am still new to chameleons. so in this little info catagory i am going to put everything to ask if i am doing thinigs right.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - a Veiled chameleon, male, and the guy at the pet store said about 5 months. i have had it for about 3 days
Handling - i have handled it twice, 1 time to put the chameleon in the cage and the 2nd because i moved the branch near his basking to a lower position and i put the light right ontop of the cage
Feeding - i am feeding it crickets , i put about 10 in this white cup, i start to put the crickets in the cup when i turn his lights on , and i havent gut loaded them because i havent found anything taking about gut loading circkets.
Supplements - i have dusted the crickets with cal-stron with vitamin D3 and when i first get the crickets i dust them right in the bag then right before i put the crickets in the enclosure i dust them
Watering - i have a spray bottle which i spray for about 2 mins at a time a couple times a day, then i have a meduim sized bottle ontop of the cage that i fill part way that i put on top of the cage for a drip system and i have a bowl on the bottom of the cage to drip into. I have not see him drink.
Fecal Description -they are brown with a little bit of white. it has not been tested for parasites.
History - not much

Cage Info:
Cage Type - the cage is a reptibreeze small screen cage. the diamensions are 16"x16"x20
Lighting - I have a hood light with a uvb bulb from exto-terra 5.0 then a basking blub with uva blub 75 whatt, lately because i havent purchased a timer i have turned them on at 6am to 8-or about 9pm but i plan to put them on from 9am to 9 pm when i purchase a timer.
Temperature - during the day cold side is 80-90 warm or basking spot is 90-100, the lowest evening temp is 78, i use a circle theremoter a standered circle theremother for both hot and cool sides.
Humidity - I have a humdity level bewteen 50-75% I am spraying often and i am in the process of obtaining a zoo-med fogger, i have a drip system , i am measureing with a standard circle thermomter.
Plants - no live plants
Placement - the cage is placed in a corner with an entertainment center to the right of the cage i have a fan but it is about 2 feet away and is is a window fan not blowing directly on the cage there is a highway on the left side of the cage well there is a wall obviously.... the cage is on top of a sidetable about 2 feet from the floor.
Location - buffalo ,new york

Current Problem - the crickets in the bowl i have put 9 in today i think the crickets at one of them but i think the chameleon ate 3 of them he hasnt event alot i did just get him so maybe he is just adapting to the cage. And today i cought him closing his eyes so i shut off the light right away but it looked like he was finding a comfertable place to sleep. oh and i dont know how much chameleons tend to move around in their cages and i dont know how fast they move. and what time do they go to sleep generally? Maybe i am just beeing paranoid because i am new to this and i am worried about him.and i would very much appricate any and all feedback regarding my cage set up and all that i am doing!!

i will post pictures tomorrow when he is awake. oh and when my chameleon is asleep he is a perfect bright green when he is awake he has alot of brown but qutie abit of brown.

WAY too hot a temperature, live plants help with humidity but make sure you get a safe one, enclosure is too small for a Veiled it'll grow up fast, dust everyday with calcium WITHOUT d3 and without phosphorous, dust twice a month WITH d3, and twice a month with multivitamins,

Feeding - i am feeding it crickets , i put about 10 in this white cup, i start to put the crickets in the cup when i turn his lights on , and i havent gut loaded them because i havent found anything taking about gut loading circkets. Gutload with fresh veggies and fruits. How big are your crickets?
Supplements - i have dusted the crickets with cal-stron with vitamin D3 and when i first get the crickets i dust them right in the bag then right before i put the crickets in the enclosure i dust them Do you have all three supplements? Calcium with D3 should be used twice a month, Calcium daily, and a multivitamin which you use 1-2 times a month

Ok just take a look at what I wrote above. Looks like your doing a pretty good job but need to make a few changes! Let your little guy settle in, it's pretty typical for some chams to go on a hunger strike until they settle in their new enclosure.

Thanks so much the first 2 days were horrible i was so worried about him but just wondering are you sure the temps are correct because i have done some research on the temperatures i just wanted to ask how long have you had your chameleon and did you get the temperatures from a vet? but thanks for all the tips i will change my cage accordinly thank you!!

He is right about the temps. That is definitely too warm. And I have no idea how you can get the temperatures cooler than the room the cage is in at night.

Also, and hopefully a more knowledgeable member can confirm (or disprove) this, but I am pretty sure that a fogger is no-good for veileds... Misting and drip system absolutely, but fogger, I'm not so sure.

Fwiw, my male veiled who is 3+ months will eat pretty sparingly a couple days a week (but voraciously the other 5 days), and I hardly ever see him drink, but his urin looks nice and white.

I'm absolutely correct about the temps, you can take a look at this blog that a very experienced senior member has written. Those temps are even way too hot for an adult...so I've no idea where your research has come from. Make sure to post some pics as well so we can better see as to what age your cham is, especially if it came from a pet shop. The link below has all the correct info of veiled care.

oh and quick question how do decrease the temperatures at night?

You want a 10-15 degree temp drop at night...what are your regular night time temps? You can always try moving your cage to a cooler part of your home. You can use a fan as well (pointed away from your chameleon) but only if your humidity is high enough. So you'll want to measure that with a fan in your room. OH BY THE WAY, WELCOME TO THE CHAMELEON ADDICTION!!

Lol I'm a SHE!! I'll forgive you :D

Haha, sorry. The only other forum I'm on is a car forum which is 99% guys and I just got back into reptiles for the first time since I was 10ish. And when I was a kid it was definitely a guy hobby (at least in regards to the people I knew). The girls often tolerated them, but I can't remember one who had any for pets.

I am absolutely blown away by how many girls are on here and it rocks! Is it a chameleon thing or all reptiles?.. Either way, I keep using it as an argument to get my gf to warm up to the idea to having more chams around:D

... Too bad there is not a hip unisex pronoun to use when quoting other members who do not have names which identify their gender. Because, it takes a long time to remember screen names, and double checking on one's phone is a PITA!

thank you all for the wonderful answers i will be sure to move a fan closer to the cage and i will return the fogger. And quick question my chameleon has been in the same spot since i have turned the lights off last night around 8:30 because hes eyes were closed and he was just staying in the same spot so with the exceptions on a few changes i assume he was getting comfortable it is 11:00 and he hasnt mover at all he has opened his eyes when i was misting but that about it and i thought they shouldnt sleep or have their eyes closed during the day. I turned my lights on at 6 because i have to get up and leave early today could turning the light on early keep him sleepy during the day?

Apology accepted! There are quite a few girls here who have many different reptiles and other animals as well. I definitely like most reptiles out there, but I'm just an animal lover in general. Haha your girlfriend must be thrilled about more chams! I've the same problem with guys...surprisingly not all of them share my cham addiction. That gives ground for a break up! ;):D

He should definitely be opening his eyes during the day, chams with closed eyes during the day are definitely no good. You may have disrupted his sleep cycle. Make sure you cool the temps as he could be closing his eyes from the intensity of the lights. What sort of UVB do you have again? Coil or tube? Just keep an eye on him and let us know if he's continuing to close his eyes.

i have a exo -terra 5.0 tube and a zoo med 75 whatt buld in a basking lamp with a dimmer with i mad the basking spot about 87 then the abent temp about 80 then humdity of 55

He hasnt moved at all or opened his eyes even when i sprayed he normal books it away from the sound of the mister and the humdity is now in like 45 zone i have no idea what is going on!

What's your weather like outside? I'd say try to take him outside and see if he opens his eyes. I'd also put him in the shower...I'd like to see if the heat and/or lights are the problem.

How warm? It's not recommended to handle him but if somethings wrong then you'll neef to. Does he open his eyes when your lights are on during the day? Ambient temps spoof be in the 70s. Put him in the shower on a plant with the shower head pointed towards the wall so he gets a slight mist. Use lukewarm water as well.

nope he hasnt opened his eyes at all today. and the abient temps are about 80 humdity 45 and it is really warm out today

Definitely need to lower those temps...ambient temps need to be in the 70s. Did you try a shower? Unfortunately there are many things that can be a problem. Right now temps and lights are a problem. Once you cross those out we can dig deeper.

You can also try sending a PM to some very experienced forum members...there are many, you can try laurie, kinyonga, or jannb just to name a few.

Hey. Yea 80 still sounds to hot for ambient temp i keep mine in the upper 70s though. Any chance you could take and post some pics so we can see your setup?
