My BOC for Jax gang

a few have asked for more pics of my BOC - I will share :) ( but no laughing :p ) and its kinda long -
I work with a 501C3 Federally registered , but NOT funded, so I have to improvise many things to save money on the cages, and use my money on feeders, and vets - SOOOOOOOO if you see something that will work better than what I have set up , please tell me :) I will do it in sections - sorry lots of broken thread- but I dont know how to put pics in the thread - only at the bottom ~
PART ONE - THE BUILD
first - they are made of screed doors- you can get them at home depot, they are $20 for a "undamaged "one, $10 for a ripped one ( I always get the ripped ones when I can ) - from 28" up to 3' wide - all the same price - go over it , the spline they use is junk ! do NOT trust it - but the screen is rather heavy, so it is good ~ I go and hot glue the screen right to the frame if I am keeping the screen on - some I do , some I dont ( depends on who/what is going in and the age, will they stay out 24/7 or just day trips ) to glue the screen on, make an " Ice pen " - remember - NO LAUGHING !! :p an ice pen is used to keep you from 1) getting all those stupid stringy thing when you hot glue something - and 2) to keep you from burning your finger tips off
you can get these large gauge syringes from feed stores , or maybe online ? I sadly enough have many because they are also what you use to for tube feeding people- my husband had cancer, and this was how I fed him - but he is :D K now - but what you want is the case, not the syringe - and some vets will give them away if you ask - I suppose you dont NEED this- but it will make the glue stick way better, look nice an smooth, and no finger burning! - fill it with water, freeze it, and run under warm water to get it out, and wrap in a napkin to hold - anyway- here is part of a build- ( I always add a chameleon and a few dogs for more chaos , I try to let Max out w/ me when I can - he is a big baby- and hates outside unless he can see you - that is why you see him here and there :p ) this one is going to be for the Panther - so I did not want the screen on all of it - lay it out, I use a fine net like stuff, then a industrial net ( used for covering land fill- so it is strong , wont rip, and takes the sun )

water and snacks

WATER and " snacks" -I use a tote ( 12 X 18 X 12 ) with a flip top lid , with a tube glued in, then it hooks to a valve, and then into my drip tube - this way, there is water dripping all over, not in just one spot . I have it wrapped in foam board, to keep it cool, and keep the sun from growing algae - BUT you can not see in - so I made this water gauge ( no laughing !! - ) it is a 2 oz deli cup, with the lid glued on, then you take 2 straws - put a dowel rod in, and tape them together - burn a hold just big enough for you straw to fit in the bottom of the cup, and glue it in - this is how you tell how much water is in your bin - it acts as a float - sticking way up - full- can see the straw - almost empty - get it ;) for snacks - I have made a self trapping fly catcher - flies are always hungry, and not so smart - this is one of those med/ tubes you get at Meijer when you get liquid med - cut the end off - fill it with food ( I use caned dog food ) here is the trick - the food MUST be lower that the entry end - flies go UP - they will land on the side, and look for a way in - the flared end helps guide them in - and YUMMY - snacks are served ( I feed wild caught bugs )

who is in here - security

as I said, depending one who is going in, depends on what I use - these cages are right outside my window, but I still have to tag them ( part because of the 501, and part because IF I go away, and something comes up , and I need a certain cham put up - they know what cage to go to because the names are on them - they pull the cham, and the tag - )
I am still working on my really big cage - but I have some issues as to size - the original was going to be 30' X 40' - using an old iron pool frame - but my husband sold the pool this spring  so now...., I think I will go with only a 10 or 15 X 20 - the outer mesh will be metal hardware cloth, so that is my hold up - $ :(

security is well taken care of - thats all I will say about that - we used to breed horses, and had many ppl in and out of here- we HAD to have a good set up ;)

I hope this helps you to build a nice big cage too :) you can build one for under $ 50 :D

Cheryl you are so good a designing and building things that work for what you want. I love that you keep your chams in a natural an environment as you are able to. Guess that is why you have such healthy chams.

That is also why I trusted you with my precious little Mary. My chams get very little out side time. Either the weather or the awful winds keep them in. :(

I love your design, and the creative ways you solved problems. The cages even look good as well as being very functional. Awesome job!

ETA:
Where do you buy the two different meshes? I like the way it looks, and it doesn't look like it would catch claws like regular screen can.
