My cham fell 50cm onto solid surface

I had Kaji (my 3 month old panther) out today and was skyping with my brother as he wanted to see him I put him up real close to the webcam (I have a 27" imac) and he climbed straight on top of my computer. He stayed still up there for a mintue so I guess he was enjoying the heat from the comp, he tried to turn around (away from my hands protecting him "just incase") and he fell onto my desk (just over a50cm drop) on his side, my heart stopped I couldn't believe I wasn't fast enough to catch him. He quickly got up and crawled straight back on my hand. He seemed ok today, walking, climbing, eating and drinking fine but seemed a little low compared to normal... I am worried there might be a possibility that maybe he has some bruising or might have internal damage... I am seeking advise about whether I should monitor him for the next few days and or take him to a vet? or am I being silly and chams are not as fragile as I am worrying about.... need some help please.

And just so you know he will NOT be walking on any smooth surface that has a drop ever again! :(

He is fine my Cham has done the same thing. As long as he is still eating, drinking and active you have nothing to worry about :)

They are very resilient, my cham fell off a giant plant I had in my house he plays in everyday onto hardwood flooring, and I was sooo worried! But he got up and looked at me and went back up into it and walked climbed around in it for another couple hours. I'd say try to be careful but these guys are meant to be high up in trees and if one fall would cripple them I believe they would have died off a couple centuries ago. Just sayin. No more high flat smooth surfaces though I'd have to say, always make sure he can grip something with at least 2 of his hands.

Really 20 inches isn't much for a chameleon. I would say watch him for a couple days, but I am sure he will be fine.

I had a 4 month old quad jump from my sister's hand to the bathroom floor, at least 30 inches. I was sure my sister dropped him & I screamed. He was fine, I was a mess. After he jumped from my hand, I learned quads are jumpers and forgave my sister.

Mt boyfriend droped clair(at the time was a babie) over five feet on a hard wood floor. they're pritty hardy, she didnt even feel it i dont think. he's 6'4 so i assume form his hands holding up is 5+ feet? also she didnt move for a moment(i was FREAKING out). we all do it. lol. do watch him though.

Every once in a while, my guy falls from a bookshelf that is close to 7 feet tall (done whatever I can to keep it from happening...but it still happens). He usually falls onto carpet and is just fine.....However, last week he fell off the other side and hit the linoleum floor in my kitchen. I didn't see it, just heard the sound (which was terrible....still cringe when I think about it). when I got to him, he was definitely stunned and a little "off" for a couple minutes. So far, he seems to have recovered just fine (knock on wood)...........soooooo, I'm pretty sure your lil guy is going to be just fine. don't worry too much

I really don't know what we would do without this forum! Thank you everyone for writing your & your chams experience's I really appreciate it and it's a huge weight off my shoulders!!!!!

I will keep an eye on him (like every other day :p) and just make sure everything is normal but sounds like the are pretty strong!!!

THANK YOU AGAIN :D:D:D:D

My veiled actually jumps lol. the first time he got away from his free range I could not figure it out until I watched him actually jump off of a table and on to the concrete. Really freaked me out but I still catch him jumping from time to time when he gets outside time (just keep him away from the concrete:)).

good luck

My veiled took a jump out of my hands. Scared the heck out of me. It was abouta 4 foot drop, and he landed on my carpet, but scared me none the less. Plus he likes to bite so I was afraid to try and grab him and have him give me a good bite. If his bite is anywhere near as strong as his grip (and I'm sure it is), that would not feel good. :)

i always wondered about his bite he does have a mad grip!! he tears his potho leaves whole right off vine, he just tugs n tugs till he rips it off. so i bet the bite wont feel so hot! his lil teeth marks on some of the leaves r not too shabby looking at all ! :D he wont let me touch him so i dont think i gotta worry about him jumping outta my hands but some of his sleeping positions i wonder about tho. i always think he is gonna fall to the bottom and he has like a 4 foot drop to the bottom but im hoping if he does fall all the potho vines and other vines will break his fall a bit! i really just hope he dont fall...lmao!! :)

My chams

Bodhi and Ranger hit the deck all the time. I hear them thud on the bottom of the cage. Your Cham will be fine.
