My chameleon is digging to lay her eggs

20170612_123914.jpg Well my female panther is finally getting ready to lay her eggs. She was bred 25 days ago. I'll have to see if the eggs are fertile because she was paired up with my male once, then wanted nothing to do with him. This is my first attempt to breed them but I've heard that you are supposed to leave then together for a few days. I just didn't want to leave her in if she wasn't receptive. Can anyone tell me if they had any luck when the male was bred only one to the female?

I can't answer your question, but I'm sure someone will soon come along who can. I'm also curious, because I hope to try my hand at breeding when my little female panther gets old enough. I'm sure I'll be just as nervous when that time comes, so I appreciate the chance to learn from your question! :)

When you want to breed them...if you show the female to the male by holding her outside of his cage she should let you know if she's receptive or not by her reactions. If she turns dark, rocks back and forth, gapes, hisses, etc she is not receptive and you should put her back in her cage. If she does not inflate her body, moves slowly away from the male with her body close to the branch and keeps her bright receptive colors she is receptive. You still need to make sure he isn't going to misread the signals and attack her before you put them together. If he acts receptive to her too then you can put the two together...but continue to watch them for a bit in case someone changes their mind. When the female begins to repel the male by showing the above non-receptive signals then remove her from the cage. Sometimes it happens quickly and so etimes it takes a day or so. You should not put them together if they are aggressive to each other when you are trying to mate them.
