my eggs died

This was my first attempt and all but one has not gotten mold on it. I guess it was too moist. I am very sad. My question is will she lay more eggs again soon? It has only been about 2 or 3 weeks since she layed them. I read that she doesnt need to mate again and I do not want to mate her this soon. But I want to know if I should be looking for signs again. If so when? By the way she is a Panther about 1yr old.

Thanks for talking with me, no one seems to reply much to me. I had mated her about 5 weeks prior and she is just under a yr old so it was her first time. My male has not been at his best, which is why I mated her because he is so sweet and beautiful. This winter his eyes started to bother him, just rubbing it some and closing one then the other. I thought it might just be too try for him inside. But now warmer and outside he is still having issues. I tried shower, saline and misting but nothing seems to help. I am trying to find a vet for him and will taking him soon. Anyway I saw them mate 2 times but unkown if his sperm was good?

It is not unusual for a girl to lay an infertile clutch the first time, even if she has been mated. It happened to 2 of our girls. The eggs turned black and fuzzy pretty quickly. We have had many successful clutches, so I don't think it was the medium they were in.

Are you using a measured formula for mixing the water into your incubation medium. I didn't have time to reread your previous threads.

i did not measure the water just wet it until only one drop of water when squeezed. Howerver I did it beween fingers vs a hand full and when i did the hand full it dripped more water maybe 4 or 5 drops. I had moved them to dryer mix when the first few eggs got mold but the rest still follow. I just got on your web site and looks great! love your set up and never found your web site before!

When you moved them did you turn the eggs at all? If you had turned them over that could have done the damage.

Thanks for the advise. I did not turn them but need to find the correct mix of water to vermiculite. Can you advise when or if she may lay more eggs?

What temperature did you incubate them at?
Its hard to say when the next clutch will be laid. Sometimes if the first clutch is infertile after the mating the next clutch will be laid sooner than normal.

Are you keeping a suitable site in her cage all the time for her to dig in to show you when she's ready?

No, I do not have a dig site in her cage now. Her color went back to non gravid and is eating like crazy again. Also, I did not think she could lay again so soon. I will put one back in, thanks for the help.

sorry, the temp for incubation was 70 to 74 degrees. What is the mixing formula for the vermiculite?

Keeping a container in the cage for the female just reduces the risk that you will miss her need to lay eggs and lower the risk of eggbinding resulting from not having a place to dig.
