My Outside Cage

El Chameleo

Here's a cage I had laying around so I thought I put it to use & made it into an outside cage for my chameleon. I built a 36" stand for the cage & screwed the cage down to the stand so there's no chance of it falling over. The cage is 2'x 2'x 4', I'm gonna order the ultimate misting system from Mistking & add a few more plants to complete it, this is what it looks like now with a few pic's of Kinich Kakmo checking it out.

It gets fairly hot inland where you are. I would make sure he has lots of shade and lots of water. One of out forum members lost his chameleons when his mister failed and the chams overheated. Just don't want you to have any problems. The cage looks awesome by the way.

Thanks for your concern it does get hot out here during the summer about 110*F. I have a big Bird of Paradise by the cage that will over hang the cage soon & a tree that cover's the sun during it's peek hours. The cage get's hit by the sun to about 2pm after it's shaded with hint's of sun rays going through the tree. I will be added more plants but for most this cage will only be a outside enclosure while I'm home to supervise & nice days for them to be out, not a full time summer home. I'm not that comfortable leaving him outside as is, It's great to let them get some natural sun rays & let them fill as if they were free in the wild once in a while.

that looks awesome... can you identify the plants that you have in there for me?... I'm gonna be building a home for my first chameleon over the next couple days, and I have everything planned except for the living plants. At this point, the only plant I'm sure i'm putting in the cage is a hibiscus.

thanks a lot.

Thanks everyone I'm not finished with it I will post more pic's as soon as I ad some more plants to it.

The plants I have in there now are a Umbrella Tree (Schefflera) & a Breaded Ficus Tree (Ficus Benjamina).

On hot days I will just keep him inside, it's not a full time summer home just a getaway from being stuck inside all day.

Thanks for everything Eric, I'll be calling soon to confirm the 2 new babies cant wait to see what comes in the mail next.

love that idea mate and its looks great too! man you americans make me jelous lol

your cham is gorgeous too by the way!! :D

Great setup! I really wish I lived somewhere warm enough where I could use an outdoor cage. Luckily summer is coming so I can at least bring her outside for a while!

I feel your pain and after seeing the pictures I'm a little jealous aswell.

You have one lucky cham. As already discussed, enough foliage should provide the needed shade if necessary. Looks great thus far!
