myth or fact?

Generally regarded as Myth.
Reason for it being some alleged claims that mealworms were swallowed whole, stayed alive and ate their way out through the reptiles stomach.
This is infact rather doubtful, stomach acids are quite harsh, I dont beleive any insect would remain alive for long enough.
There has never been any actual veternary evidence to suggest this has ever happened.

Urban Herper myth! :)

They can and do bite though! I only cup feed them to Lily - I won't hold them. Probably why chams always shoot for the head end of their food, so they don't get bitten by the prey in the process!

I have to agree with jo, Stomach acids are very harsh. How painful is heartburn for example. So u could imagine bathing in hydroclorich acid. Couldn't imagine surviving very long in a swimming pool full.

i always smooch their heads so they can't bit my chameleon when he eats them. the one time i didn't one bit the outside of his eye and i freaked out on the thing :D

There is a article about Ch.t.montium in which some superworms don't die while getting in the stomach and there they caused some inner injuries which caused the death of the chameleon.
But why do you feed them ? They are really fat and they will cause adiposis in the organs of the chameleon. I don't know any reason why to feed them. Use crickets or cockroaches if they are still in the growing or when they are gravid
