I felt like giving the title of this post a game show like feel. Here’s my ever present friend, Tony. As previously posted, Tony watches me work all day, mostly in silence. His new thing is popping out from behind a plant on the floor and hissing at me. He will stand there for 20 minutes or so, standing up tall and proud, like he’s the ruling dinosaur of his domain.
No one else is around, the dogs are all asleep. It’s just Tony and I. He doesn’t screen climb, he’s eating great, and doesn’t want me to hold him. I can absolutely hold him if need be, he just puffs out his gular and looks around spooky but that’s about it. He’s a sweetheart.
When I open the enclosure he doesn’t make a break for it, ever. He usually stands his ground and slowly retreats to the back where he feels safe.
It’s weird to see a chameleon walking on the ground. Takes a lot of confidence. Or maybe he’s just abandoned the “tree” because he knows he has a safe retreat? I’ve watched cham documentaries where chams will take to the ground to fight another cham and defend their tree.
So my question is, what the heck is he doing? Trying to intimidate me like im a rival male or just trying to get my attention? We are good friends as long as the door is closed. Otherwise he’s a scaredy cat.
