The times I have had this done, it cost a lot $200 +/- and proportionally often can back with inconclusive results. Sending organs away for Histopathology/tests also came back inconclusive.

I agree it is awesome to KNOW but sad to say you often leave with more questions than before. The one thing that is good is that part of the necropsy is squeezing out the intestines and putting the feces on a slide to check for parasites. Also other parasites can be id'd if visibly to the human eye.

Problem is what came first? Stress and then parasites which leads to symptoms? or Parasites which lead to stress and other symptoms. Either way they are interconnected.

Nonspecific ....? (insert your organ disease here) is often the diagnosis.

Interesting stuff though!

I find it interesting to do myself. If you don't have a background in biology, you can learn yourself easily via the internet. Look up pics of necroscopies, and you'll get a good idea of what healthy tissues look like. When you open your animal up, you can often see somethign obviiously wrong - impactions and some digestive issues are easy to spot even without any prior knowledge. Some parasites can kill animals outright, husbandry can cause problem sin the long-term that might be obvious on the inside (fat lizards look really fat on the inside), Infections often are easy to spot if you have a pic of a good organ to compare it too.

In genreal, it's a good way to learn abotu the animals.

Unfortunately Pockey died before i started 2-12 hour shifts and so I have "preserved" him in the refrigerator....I realize that a necropsy without life details would likely be inconclusive (and expensive)....but i have a good biology backgroud and "surgical" tools so tomorrow i will attempt to use my knowledge of pockey's life with me....my amateur pathology skills and the internet to learn what i can. I will attempt to take many pictures and if any are interested i will post a thread with my finding/pics. I also will attempt to pick the brain of my vet when Dina (my female Jacksonni) sees the him april 23rd. if anyone has suggestions please post them tonight before i begin my evaluation in the AM

Thanks,

Sean
