Need a quick Opinion on lowering perch or wattage -

hi. New arrival tomorrow and I've read all the lighting threads over and over. I need an opinion. I'm using dome lights, and my basking light is a 60 W "grow" light, it's advertised for plants. It's a flood type, but 7 in ends from basking spot it's still almost 100. I don't want to lower perch anymore, lots of wasted cage space, should I go with a lower watt? Too me that's a "duh" question, but you never know with chameleons, and I'm a newbie coming off a bad experience. This has to be on the mark this time . Thanks.

Instead of moving the basking spot lower you could try raising the lamp, if that doesn't work or isn't an option lowering the wattage is the best and simplest solution.

I know a lot of people do it and I have done it in the past but I'm not a big fan of placing lamps on the sceen because it will create a hotspot on the screen and since your chameleon can climb the screen it could also burn itself on the screen as they will not notice it until it's to late.
I have my lamps hanging from the ceiling on a chain, I can easily lower or raise the lamp buy hooking it on a different link in the chain.
