Just received my cham yesterday. A ambilobe panther from FL Chams. I've noticed that he is show a dark to black. Is he stressed. I've seen him eat but not drink. How do i make sure he's happy. the cage set up is the same set up sold by the Kammer's packages.

Just want to make sure I'm doing things right

How's the ambient temp? A cool chameleon that is basking will turn dark to better absorb the heat. Also, in general, most chameleons that are feeling overly stressed will not eat.

i wouldtry not to make contact with him unless you are watering/misting or feeding. if you just got him he is really stressed. Try not to bug him to much.
yes he could just be dark to help bask.

if you just got him he is really stressed.

Why? If it's an animal that has been in captivity all its life and is used to being in a cage and is eating, why must it be stressed? Does it remember being shipped the night before? Still holding bad feelings about it?

I'm a strong believer in observing your chameleons and being aware of what is going on with them. If he'll eat in front of you, there is no reason to try to avoid watching him eat if he's getting enough overall. Sounds like you have a healthy animal. Use some intuition as to how much to interact with it. If you see an adverse change in food/water consumption or behavior, do something to correct it. If he eats well, he will also drink using the right technique. I don't see any reason to hide your presence, it's been fed and watered by humans since it hatched.

thanks for the info and your time. I think i'll be leaving him alone for a while.

Hey hairfarm maybe you can show us pic of you SS:D

Actually, I just tried it and it shrinks it for you! So here's my big boy, I got him in December '96 and his 41st birthday is in the second week of January :D
