Hi I bought my first male Senegal Chameleon about two months ago he is doing great in his cage. I just ordered a female senegal chameleon. I was wondering are they going to breed and if they do how do i deal with that. They will be sharing a cage I was just wondering because a male and female will obviously want to mate I just was curious how to deal with it.

thank you.

Congratulations on your Senegal! Any chance of a picture of him?

Breeding chameleons is much more complicated than for many other reptiles. They do not socialise and will not tolerate sharing territory with another chameleon, even one of a different gender. If you are planning to breed them, you will need to keep them in separate cages and introduce them carefully once the female shows signs of being receptive (which varies, but probably once every 3 months or so) observing them to make sure you can separate them if they become agitated or violent towards one another.

I only have one Senegal, and no plans to breed her, so can't advise you on the technical sides of laying bins for the female and all the other things you need to consider, but I think it's worth you doing a lot more research, and definitely purchase a separate habitat for the female before she arrives.
