New feeder friday !

So I decided to add some new feeders to my chams diet today...

I bought some hornworms some silkworms and dubia roaches on the way.

Now to the semi bad part.....

When I received my order all of the worms I got were super small....almost laughable to feed them to my chams right now. Im pretty disapointed I was hoping to give my chams a feast of different foods over the next few days. Rather then the cricket & superworms they usually get.

How fast do hornworms and silkies grow? I bought the cups with prepackaged food.

the worst part....all of my chams love superworms I ordered 100 and received about 30 with several worms that were chewed up. they were rolled up in a brown sack material and a couple of carrots pieces thrown in.

Is this standard in the feeder business? I usually get my supers from a local shop and bulk crickets from him as well.

Your hornworms will grow super fast :D

I have ordered superworms online from various places that also sell silkworms but I have had the same problem. I buy my superworms from the local Petco. Its the only thing I buy from them as I can open the plastic container and look at the condition of them. I also know what days they get their shipments in so I go in and get them the day they arrive.

I only go thru 1 tub a week as they are not a staple feeder but more of a variety/mid afternoon snack. I transfer them to a bigger container with the bran and then throw in a good mix of carrot, greens, oranges etc for gutload and they last ages.

From my experience hornworms grow really fast and silk worms take a while to get big. You probably ordered from Mulberry Farms cause that's exactly how my superworms came in. In their defense, I actually think I got more than what I ordered (50). Were the worms also inside a brownish paper crumpled up? (the couple past statements were under assumption that you got them from Mulberry Farms, by the way)

They both will grow REALLY fast if you keep them warm with food 24/7. If they are 1/4" long today they can be more than an 1" tomorrow.

Yea it was Mulberry Farms. I didnt want to come on here and bash thier business until they had a chance to correct the problem.

Ill more then likely stick to my local supplier and forum members for foods.

thats good to know they grow pretty fast....maybe ill be able to feed'em to my chams in a few days = p

Ive never had problems with mulberryfarms. Consider yourself luck if you got super small hornworms. Usually I cant feed all of mine off before they are to big. Just wait you will be SURPRISED how fast they grow.

worms

I recently bought wax worms from Petco or petsmart, I cant remember. It says to store them at 45 - 55 degrees. So I placed them in the fridge for a night. Then I took them out and left'em by my enclosure overnight by accident. Do you think they are still good? Some look dead

I basiclly need a clearification of how these are sold more then anything. I didnt want to try and bash any company.

And in all fairness since someone guessed who I was dealing with Mulberry Farms has been very generous in correcting the problem...and I will use them again....only this time ill use the comments section to get exactly what I want.

The only real error was the supers but again its all been fixed.

Oops, didn't mean to make you look like you were bashing Mulberry Farms by guessing where you got it from. But to your original question when I get superworms from Pet Co or PetSmart they usually come in a white deli cup, Timberline is the brand I think. When I ordered from Coastal Silkworms they also came in a deli-like cup. So far MB has been the only one that sent me superworms in a cloth snake bag with carrots and not the typical oatmeal/bran substrate. MB did send me more than I ordered though. :D

I typically purchase my silkies and hornies from Coastal Silkworms and have had zero problems. The hornies grow EXTREMELY fast.

I just received a new 3 mos old ambilobe who was raised strictly on gutloaded crickets and offered him some silkies for the first time but he didn't bite. Showed absolutely no interest. I placed the silkies on a container top so they would appear to be free range but he just stared at them. I hope I didn't waste my money..lolololol. He's a ravenous eater though. Knocks down 15-20 crickets a day so it's no biggie. I just wanted to introduce a little variety into his diet. I'll try a few superworms next. Hopefully with better results.
