New Lens - Photos of Chams and Dogs

I ran out and bought a lens the guy at the store called the "nifty fifty," a little Canon 50mm lens with really great glass and what I think is a beautiful shallow depth of field. So I took it out today and tried to get the hang of using it. It's not very good for very tiny subjects like the baby panthers but for everyone else I think I could get nicer shots once I get the hang of it more. It does a lot better with indoor lighting, I will say that.

Anyway, here are the more decent ones from today (not all of them are crisp, I'm still getting used to the manual focus on it, sorry!).

This is my Sheltie pup, Milou.

And now the chameleons.

I'll try it out again tomorrow and update if I get anything else. I'm dying to get shots of Gabriel with this lens but he's still very shy and prefers to hide most of the day.

Great looking shots, a good lens does make a difference, but the photographer has to know how to use it the correct way and you got that.

Thanks everyone! Not award-winning pics yet but I'm really pleased with this lens. Especially with chameleons, being able to manually focus past the plants and onto the animal is awesome! My last lens's manual focus was awful.

He has a sweet mischievous face...like he just ate your sock.

Lol jk

Love the focus and pictures. New lenses are fun

LOL! Yes, very true! I'm SO glad that phase seems to be over, knock on wood haha

Great pics Olimpia! Is it the f/1.8 or 1.4? The 1.8 is a excellent lens for the price

Yes, it's the 1.8. When the guy at the shop told me about it I was like, That sounds stupid [lol!], who needs a 50mm that doesn't zoom in or out at all?" But then I tried it, went home that night and thought about it all the next day. So I went back and got it. It was on sale too, so it was even better.

The 50mm is such a great lens. I too have it, but the f/1.4. They are slightly different in quality, in terms of photos, but I really like that the 1.4 is metal, so I don't feel so nervous carrying it and such.

However, great photos, can't wait to see more :)

Once you start using primes, you'll become addicted. :)

I was non-stop busy today but I snapped a couple photos of Gabriel while I was giving him his last misting of the day.

Again, these are not ground-breaking shots or anything but I'm happy to have a lens that works right now, honestly lol

Your pictures are great as usual. But even with all your camera equipment i doubt i could take a good, crisp photo.:(

Thanks Laurie!

Got some of Daedalus this morning. I am tempted to bring the Meller's outside on a plant for some sunshine. I think it would perk him up a bit (and I could get photos...) but I also don't want to move him around much for another week. So... dilemmas, dilemmas.

Awesome pics! love the pup my sister has two, didnt think any one else in Miami had these wonderful dogs with this heat lol.

Thanks! I have two as well, I love them. They do pretty well, they're in the AC most of the day and then when we go out in the evenings they love swimming so we manage the heat pretty well.

Ya my sister does the same but hers hate the water for some reason lol
Heres a pic of the boy

He's beautiful! Does he have blue eyes? I love this breed so much, I think I'll probably have at least one until I die. Originally I wanted a sable one (like your sister's) but the best breeder I found in the state specializes in the grey and black shelties, and I fell in love the the blue merles.

Here's are newer photos of both of mine. Mina, my girl on the left, and Milou on the right.
