I currently have a large exo waterfall but it is kind of awkward in my jacksons cage. I was thinking of taking a piece of plywood and building some sort of waterfall type feature on the back wall of his cage. What type of materials are safe to use for my cham? Is plaster of paris safe? If not im open to any suggestions! Im pretty New at owning a cham and just want him to stay happy and safe!

Do not build a waterfall please.

They are a breeding ground for bacteria and can seriously harm the health of your loved one.

wateralls are great!! but not in a chameleons enclosure. the waterfall will build up and be a breeding ground for bacteria. if your cham drinks the water he will then get sick. im new to chams also so im sure a semior member will chime in here and inform you of the dangers.

Unless u flush it out daily due to feces dead bugs and organic matter from plants cause a ton of bacteria. Which can make ur cham sick quickly, also so much water in the enclouser 24/7 can cause respritory problems. Not to mentions chams tend to fall and falling into the waterfall can be potentially fatal.

With the number of montanes I've been keeping lately, was thinking of adding a large waterfall to a outdoor enclosure. Would use a large sand filter to keep things clean, and know it would up the humidity, and keep things cooler in the surrounding area.

If you have a way to run high grade carbon such as used for saltwater aquariums it will remove a lot of pathogens as well helping to keep it clean for your chams to drink ;)

So id be better off with just doing a drip system for him? I already have a misting system it comes on for 1.5 min every three hours.

Yes.

Its safest to use adripper and a mister to water him.
chams dont drinking running water, or standing water.

and Yes, there is a difference between running/standing water and misted water.

While were on the water misting thing.. how ofter and duration should my mister be setup for? the humidity seems to stick at 55. The cage is a open air 24x24x48. The misting system is mist king with timer

Personally I would do it once a half hr after lights on for 4 min. Mid day for 4 min. Then an hr and a half before lights out for 3 min

I think it depends where you live and what type of enclosure you have. You want the humidity to be high (depending on what species you own), but the enclosure should dry between mistings or your cham may get RI.
I'm not an expert though ;)
