Hi everyone, I am thinking of getting a chameleon but keep getting conflicting information! I live in Scotland where surprise its cold! So is glass or screen enclosures? also real or fake plants? I have more questions but any advice regarding what to get to help my wee guy to be thrive and be happy! oh looking at a veiled or panther... thanks

Welcome to the forum :)

Is it always cool there?

Glass or screen depends on your climate.
All screen cages are easier to maintain, cheaper to buy, and easy to move around.

With a all glass cage, you need to think about proper ventillation and water drainage to prevent bacteria growth.

You can get cages that are made for arborial lizards and are a combination of both glass and screen.
Alternativly, you can get a all screen cage and cover the back and sides with plastic to help keep humidity in, but still have plenty of ventilation.

Welcome! Great to have another Scot on here, there aren't many of us. Screen cages are much less common here than they are in the US, but many people still use them with success. I'm not a big fan of glass vivariums because they are size limited and expensive. My preference would be wooden vivariums because they retain heat better than glass and you can custom build them to virtually any size. If you decide to go down this route and don't want to build it yourself then you have a pet store near you called Proexotics that custom build vivariums. Psychobunny's suggestions were also good. Either way you want an enclosure with a mesh/screen top and lots of ventilation.

I'd recommend you read up on the forum before making your chameleon purchase, most pet stores will give you wrong information.

I was looking at a wooden viv today and think that is what I'm going to for.. Worried the mesh or screen won't hold heat in my house.. Love this forum get some great info!!
