I recently purchased a blue barred ambilobe panther from Kolorburst chameleons. He is now about 4 1/2 months old. Since we get fairly cold here in the winter, I have a 6 X 8 foot grow house downstairs where I bring in all my tropical or fruit plants for the winter. Lighting is provided by 3 light systems, each having four full spectrum, 6500 k T8 bulbs. I have added a basking lamp. Ventilation is provided by two 8 inch duct fans, one blowing in and one out. I added a Mist King setup with three nozzels to provide the humidity. It stays a nice 84-85 degrees inside. Humidity between 60-70%. Everything automated, including the night light. a Virtual jungle of natural vegitation for him to crawl on plus some synthetic vines. He eats like a pig and has shed twice since I received him. He is now at the point where he is not intimidated by me when I enter and since I have always hand fed him, he no longer crawls away. One pic is right after he took the cricket from my hand.

Hello, welcome to the forum :) Looks like a very nice setup to me, I have soil in with mine and never have a problem. Most people on the forum would recommend covering up the exposed soil with rocks to prevent him eating it though. I'm not sure if those plant light provide the uvb he needs though...... Night lights are not good as they can interfere with sleep (even the red or blue ones). A night time drop in temps is healthy but if you do need additional heat then a ceramic heater is much better.
P.s. nice name - I always like to see a panther called Bagheera :D

Welcome to the forum, you will love all the nuts here, but we are a fun group. David has cover all possibilities, except does he have adequate UVB? Looks like your guy is in heaven and didn't have to die to get there. If so I think you have it made. congrats.

thanks David and Laurie

The grow lights are the equivilent of afternoon sunlight in spectrum. The plants do great under them so I figure he is getting good exposure. If not, I do have a 75 watt reptile UVB bulb in there that he will bask under.

At night, it drops to about 60-70 degrees.

The night light is very low level. Otherwise, it is pitch dark from no other ambient light source. I figure even in the natural setting there is some moonlight.

Sounds good then, 60-70 degrees is fine for nighttime. Don't really need the moonlight but if it's very low I guess there's no reason why not :)
