New to Forums and new Chameleon

Hey Everybody (said in my best Dr. Nick voice)

I'm new to the boards and today I got my first chameleon from Chris (Geckoxp).

I have been lurking and reading the last 3 or 4 weeks. I know everyone likes to hear set up stats, so....
I have a 2x2x4 screen LLLReptile cage with a 5.0 zoo med strip repti sun bulb, a zoo med 75 watt basking light, a penguin humidifier from Target, a hand pump mister, Rep Cal supplements of calcium with D3, without and herpivite. I have pathos, 3 hibiscus, a ficus, schefflera and some dracaena for live plants. They were all under $10 at Lowe's. I got some great plants for only a $1 and the hibiscus were all on sale for $4.99! All plants have been washed, rinsed, replanted with organic soil and have large rocks and stones covering the top layer. I also have a grape vine wreath to soak apart soon and apply to bamboo stakes when i have some free time.

The Ambilobe is about 7/8 months old, originally from Kammers. He did very well with the shipping. Chris was great! Answered all my questions and was very patient. The cham was misted and ate a cricket right after arriving. Right now we are taking advantage of the nice day and sitting on the back porch on a hibiscus.

A bit about me...I have been a vet tech for 9 yrs. I switched from small animals to aquatic/exotics when I got a job managing the aquarium medical exhibit at the New England Aquarium about 3 yrs ago. There I took care of everything that was sick-fish, herps, birds, marine mammals...everything. We had 12-14 different systems for sick or new born animals that I oversaw and cared for. I raised yellow spot amazon turtles (Podocnemis unifilius) that were laid and hatched at NEAQ as well as green anacondas. I have now moved to Chicago to work as a tech at the Shedd. Here we have a bunch of chameleons. And after a day of doing annual exams, I was in love.

So here I am, posting new chameleon pics.

Enjoy.

Abbey -

I got your email and everything looks and sounds great. Feel free to email me any further questions about him as they come. I can tell that he is in good hands with you and my Nosy Be went to good hands with Joe as well...I'm very happy over here!

I hope you enjoy him as his colors will come in more and more!

Welcome, Abbey!

Do you know if both of the Shedd's adult CB melleri are still alive and well? I bred them, but have only heard of one being on exhibit.

Thanks again, Chris. I enjoy his colors already right now, so I'm sure I'm going to love his future colors.

Joe, good luck with Elwood, his is a handsome guy. Good luck on his gf as well.

Kristina, I know there are (is) melleri in the building because I asked what types we have. Not sure if it is just one or two. I have not seen them/it yet. I have only had a chance to meet all of the many panthers we have. I will ask next week.

Thanks for the nice welcoming!

Ok- so after misting yesterday and today, he still seemed dehydrated. (i was only guessing because he had not pooped yet)

He only drank a little bit from the branches last night. I started the humidifier as well this am. I figured I should shower him. I put him in on a hibiscus. He started moving around a lot, walking into the stream. (my shower head does not bend all the way to bounce it off the wall, instead i have it hitting a 1/4 of the bush).

15 mins later he pooped. The picture is below. The fecal material is ok, but the urates are orange. Anything else I can do? Any suggestions?

The hygrometers are saying different values in the cage. One says 53% but the temps is wacked- says IN is higher than the OUT which doesn't make sense. The other temp/hygrometer says 80 temp and 79% humidity.

Suggestions? I don't want to be over attentive or under attentive.

Yeah ...
He needs to drink more.
You said he is drinking, so that's good.
Just make sure he has access to water (maybe a dripper)
Silkworms are good food to help in hydration as well and very nutritious!
I get mine from coastal silkworms.
