Hey guys!
so im new to the froum and ive alwsy loved chameleons so im finally going to get a little friend :). So ive been researching a few years now probally and im pretty sure i know what im doing. my plan is to save up about 500 dollars and i think thatll be pretty sufficeint to set up a nice living quarters. Im pretty sure i want to get a juvenille vieled becasue they seem to be a good spiece for a beginer. Im going to get a 24x24x36 terriraium to start myself off with braches trees and all the bells and whistles like digital thermometers. my main question is automitc mister or handheld? and also if any of u guys breed or know of a legit store to look for a juvenille veiled ive seen stores keeping chameleons through the years but ive alwysed been apauled that most shops dont even keep thier chameleons as well! there alawys in tanks with water dishes and other wrong furinishings. so is there anyone that knows a good place on long island newyork that has chameleons or even if anyone breeds!? So this is my first post and i wanted to say hello to everyone and if theres any additional information you guys want to share im all ears.. welll eyes.. and if theres anything i should know id love your answers! thanks...vin

Welcome. A male juvenile Veiled will make a great starter cham. You can get everything you need as far as as cage etc. for about $250. I would order a Veiled cham from one of the site sponsors to make sure you get a healthy one. With one chameleon it is pretty easy to hand mist (heck, I do it with 20) but if you want to make life easy as far as watering you can get a misting system. FLChams sells a complete kit with everything you need-just add a live plant and a chameleon and you are good to go!

Medium Kit

* Cage 18 x 18 x 36
* 60 Watt Heat Bulb
* 5 1/2" Clamp Lamp
* 20" Fluorescent Fixture
* Reptisun 5.0 18' Fluorescent Bulb
* (2) Exo Terra Vine – Medium
* (2) Exo Terra Large Ampallo Plastic Leaves
* Zoo Med Calcium w/ D3
* Reptivite
* Zoo Med Digital Thermometer
* Reptile Spray Bottle

PRICE: $250.00

SHIPPING: $50.00/ea.

Hi Vin, and welcome to the forums!

We have been using a mist king system for a fee years, and LOVE it! But we do have several cages, maybe start out with a hand held sprayer and see how it goes?????

I live in the Midwest so can't help you out with the NY side of things :)

:Dhey!!!

Welcome to the forums..

And i suggest to ditch the terranium and just get a screen cage at least 18x18x36 or since you want a juvie veiled, what the heck try and get a 24x24x48 screen cage....hand spray misting is fine and since its for one cham , should be easy...overall your choice to get the misting system...

As far as getting a veiled, check our sponsors and go on the "Classifieds" sections and click "Chameleons for sale".

Good luck and post pics of your new cham when you get the chance:D:D:cool:

Hey guys thakns for the quick responses and the welcomes i really love the community already:). And as far as the site sponsors i saw "flchams" has some exceptional deals as well. My only question is to ace. is a 24x24x48 too big for a juvenille vieled? i want my little guy to be as happy and healthy as he can be!

juvies around 4-6 months wont mind the extra space...think about having a bigger room all too your self..:rolleyes:....

Anyway he will ajust to it..and they grow pretty fast so im helping you save money by not getting an extra cage and using it for only a few months...:D

the smaller sizes 18x18x36 is more suitable for female veileds...:)

Also is it safe to order a cham offline? i dont want a traumatic shipping experience in so on. im just skeptical on that matter :(

It is a bit big, but you can fix that by maybe raising the bottom with something and getting handy as a temporary fix. :) Saves money!

As long as the seller knows what they are doing, your chameleon should be fine. Check the BOI http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13 and read around.

I agree, if you get a juvie go with the larger cage. I have shipped over 100 chams with no issues personally, so please do not worry about shipping. Healthy chams come out of the shipping box ready to eat! You are much better off with a well started healthy cham shipped than one from a Petstore that received sub-prime care.

Hey, welcome to the forums!!!! I would try hand misting or a dripper to start since you're only going to have one cham and see how that goes :)

To confirm WITH Syn...There is NO Hostility with us....Snip...i was just teasing.;):D:cool:

good to know guys :) what about a feeding regiment for a juvie? feeder crickets? suggestions?

For feeder crickets, you want to gut load them really well with fruits and vegies such as kale, mustard greens, apples, oranges. Up to 6 months of age you want to feed your cham as many feeders as he will eat in a day.
