I’ve been rotating. Decided to do 4 nights in a row…. During the day I’m a zombie and at night I can’t sleep. It’s rough. I try to cut my sleep short to go to bed early, but I just end up waking up wired after an hour. Then I’m up until it’s light outside. Any tips lol?

Fair enough, unfortunately we’re required to work at 4-6 nights a schedule. I’m just trying to put up with it for a couple+ years.
Ugh! That’s rotten! Going back and forth between shifts is the worst of all and there’s little remedy for your body or mind adjusting to it. If you’re able to set your own days at least, try to bunch them all together into one long block - be a night owl for half the month and day walker for the other.

Yikes! I would do 5 nights and off on the weekends. I would go to bed as soon as I would get off on Sat morning and sleep for about 4-5 hrs. It took a couple months for my body to adjust to that schedule to where I could function during the day. I wore a sleep eye mask during this time as well. Unfortunately, I would sleep during the night on the weekends and try to stay up Sunday night but it never worked lol! I would try to sleep Monday before my shift. I was always super tired at work on Monday nights. That never went away lol. Thankfully I was busy enough to stay awake. Unless I was doing microscope reading then I would nod off lol! Ugh, I don’t miss those days, it’s rough…

Yup that’s what I try to do, but then getting back to day schedule is so hard. My body naturally tends towards being a night owl so I flip over quick to being tired during the day and awake at night. Depressing being up all night while the fam is asleep lol.

Lol I do the same thing staying up the night before to try and switch over and it screws me everytime. Pretty much just have to stay up 24 hrs. Last week I slept for 4 hours and then stayed up for 26 hours straight 😅.

Yeah it can get depressing 😬…I have stayed up 24hrs but ended up sleeping the entire time I was off to catch up on sleep, ugh. It’s a tough balance, at least you are some what of a night owl. I am up as soon as there is light lol. I didn’t dream for over a year, it was very weird!

My night shifts are totally random
Doing it on a random basis always sucks 😂
If you have a certain requirement each month, do it all at once right in the middle of the shift assignment and know that it will suck coming in and out of it as a normal human being

Humans don’t tolerate this kind of sleep change well, so if possible concentrate the pain all at once

wow random night shifts would suck! Ive just been chunking mine into 3-4 nights in a row. I feel like often they are less busy than days, but crazy things always seem to happen.

Def mentally gets to me. Don’t feel myself for a little while after them. Can’t be good for our long term health.
