My Panther won't eat crickets anymore- just all kinds of worms- silk, meal and super worms- is that dangerous for him or is he just picky?

Hi

Just give him time mine was the same way he at first was eating about 7-8 crickets a day every day and then he went thru a 8mo period were he would not touch on cricket only worms. Now he is back to crickets I usually put crickets in his cage everyday so he can pick them off when he gets hungry. Over all I wouldn't worry hes just got the taste for worms.

mine dose the same thing last week he would only eat crickets this week he will only eat mealworms..They are picky.

It can happen that they will hold out for what they like best, but this is not necessarily what is best for them. Not necessarily dangerous, but crickets are useful because they are easier to gutload than most other feeder choices. Also, a diet high in "fatty" choices like supers or mealworms could be detrimental.
If you want to get your chameleon back to eating crickets, Try not offering any larva for awhile, only offer crickets. After a week or two, he is likely to accept what is offered.

Its best if mealworms do NOT make up more than about 10% of your chameleons diet.
Indeed no feeder choice should form more than 20% of the diet, IMHO. Variety is important.
