Ophelia's Day Out

Here are some more pics of the 3 tree/bushes that I have. I don't see any round fruit or seeds of any kind. Pictures of the ground, around and under, do not show any berries (obviously I don't rake or weed enough so I'm hoping if there were any they would have fallen and I'd see them somewhere. I'll scour the net tonight and take a sample to a nursery tomorrow.

Is one of the symptoms not laying eggs lol, ugh

That is a definite nightshade i know that is without a doubt

The last pic is not the plant she ate. That's another bush on the opposite side of my backyard... it kinda grows wild behind my husbands shop. Which I will probably remove now.

The other purple bush is not the same plant at all. I'm looking it up now.

I don't know of anything that could flush the system if she's already got poisoning from it, but other than that try to get her to drink really well and hydrated. Hopefully it will help flush it out before anything that could possibly happen starts.

The one you first posted is definitely a purple nightshade, that looks exactly what we have in our yard. Ours doesn't have berries quite yet. They will start showing up when the weather is warmer more consistently.

The second one is another ... I think it would be subspecies? (not sure for plants) of purple nightshade but I think that kind might be one of the few safe ones to eat. Don't do it anyway. There are too many that are unsafe. These guys are used all the time in California where I am because they grow really well here.

I cannot satisfy my mommy panic. I have looked and read information on internet and encyclopedia articles that describe the plant. I'm sure that the last photo I posted is nightshade. Pictures of some nightshade definitely look like the plant that I have allowed her to climb on several times. Obviously there are different subspecies of nightshade because the two versions I have in my yard look alike, but are not the same, but are probably in the same family. She has only eaten 2 bites of new growth and that happened on 3/17 when I first started this thread. That plant (in fact the three near my house) have never had berries, I'm positive of it. If it did, then I would conclude that they are definitely nightshade but with the absence of the berry... the plant doesn't fall into the typical description of nightshade. That doesn't mean it isn't though, I suppose. I'll take it to a nursery tomorrow and see what they say.

@Andee in the link you posted it says "It grows to 35 inches high, with a hairy stem; leaves that are lance shaped to oval, somewhat lobed, and 2 - 3 inches long; a distinctive umbel-shaped inflorescence with purple-blue flowers up to an inch and half wide; and a green berry fruit that is ½ - ¾ inches wide". This describes the last picture exactly, but not the one she has been on/eaten. So I'm going to climb down from the ledge I was about to throw myself off of and hope for the best. Thanks for pointing out the danger. I feel like a total idiot and I'm so mad at myself. It has been 2 weeks since she ingested it and there has not been any indication that she suffered any ill effects, so maybe we dodged a bullet. I will have to find another photogenic place to take her pic... I wanna win one of the photo contests someday :)

Oh hun if it's been 2 weeks don't worry XD nightshade toxicity starts showing up around the first like 24 hours I want to say o_O? Not positive but pretty sure. It's pretty shit place to be. (sorry about language)

Solanum rantonnetii

That is the type of nightshade you showed, and the type I also have.

Edit: Also known as Lycianthes rantonnetii

Ok, I'll not worry. She won't be going out there again (which is a bummer b/c she loved it and there were plenty of crane flies). She can hang out on the hibiscus. I swear this girl will be the death of me.

I redid her laying bin... I needed to put my anxiety energy to use somehow and I have been thinking it was time to switch it out. I'll find my other post about laying and put in my notes there. But short story.. this cham is so chill and makes me laugh. Made me feel better <3

Thanks @Andee and @Jwillchamel :love::love:

Of course ^^ we are here to help for sure. Be careful with plant with veileds always, they are like iguanas and will at least try something once usually as far as greens XD
