So we two male veiled chameleons, when we first got them they were caged together, but they soon needed to be separated. When they were separated, we had their enclosures side by side, but we quickly learned that their colors stayed darker. We have now separated them. They are across the room from each other, and their colors at most times stay a beautiful color scheme. That being said, in the mornings my routine is to take care of one then the other immediately, however they seem to be jealous, as the one who comes second (I take turns at to who I work with first) darkens (very dark) in color while I am working with the other. Now this only happens the first time every morning, not the rest of the day. Should we move them closer to each other or leave things as they are? I just want to know what is best for them.

I would say put them SIDE BY SIDE and then put a piece of white plastic between them.

They will NOT see each other EVER and will no longer get "jealous".

Even being across the room, they can still see each other.

maybe #2 is seeing you across the room, which is drawing his attention to the rival chameleon over there.

I agree side by side with a barrier inbetween or otherwise positioned so the can never see each other is the way to go
