hi all,

just researching at the mo so please forgive my stupid questions...

was just wondering... apart from crickets/wax worms etc do chameleons eat anything else like fruit or leaves? and if so how often?

thanks

Amongst other things that other people will tell you the vet told me to try giving rose petals, carnations, and of course hibiscus. She said it might be hard to get the cham to eat it and I might have to offer it daily for a month or so until she gains any interest. My chameleon personally does not eat leaves or flowers but I am trying. She likes to kill hibiscus's though. I've also heard grapes are good. And leafy greens except spinach. Maybe kale and escarole.

It should probably be noted that Veileds will eat fruit and leaves/greens. A panther other than a very rare occurrence does not eat fruits/greens.

and also how do you feed them it? i am planning on getting a yemen/veiled cham. will it eat the fruit out of my hand or should i leave it on a branch to start with?

There really are no stupid questions. You are doing the right thing and researching. No one here will get down on you for that.

Just wanted to make that point and wanted to say welcome to the forum.

A veiled chameleon can eat dandelion leaves, kale, collards, endive, escarole, mustard greens, slivers of the following veggies..sweet red peppers, carrots, squash, sweet potato, squash, zucchini as well as a bit of fruit (apple, pear, melon and berries). Some people say that the sweet potato should be slightly cooked. They can also eat non-toxic flowers and plant leaves that have come from a safe source (no pesticides, etc.)
